In August 2005, Universal Studios celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Blues Brothers Movie by releasing a special edition DVD. Featuring both the Theatrical and Extended editions of the movie, this DVD also contained new bonus features not seen on the original 1998 release.
The DVD was officially launched on August 30th across the USA, with a simultaneous screening of the movie following a Q&A with the cast/crew. The main launch was at Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, in attendance were:
- Dan Aykroyd (via Satellite)
- John Landis (Director)
- Steve Cropper
- James Brown
- Henry Gibson
- Charles Napier
- Stephen Bishop
- George Folsey Jr (Associate Producer)
- Thom Mount (Fmr Universal Studios Head of Production)
Guests at the Hollywood event were given a free gift bag containing specially branded hats, ties and sunglasses:
Before the event began, there was a press lineup where the cast and crew were interviewed by a variety of news sources (including FOX, CNN, Chicago Sun-Times and Yahoo).
After this, the cast and crew moved to the main theatre for the Q&A session in front of all the fans, with Dan Aykroyd joining via satellite. The event concluded with a screening of the theatrical edition of the movie.
