He is my hero. I don't know about you guys but I think he is the greatest. Danny is close to follow in my heart. People tell me all the time that John isn't a good role model for me. You know what I tell them. I said look he gave me an example of what not to do. He is the best. I just wish he was still here! I wanted to be the first person to talk about him in this forum. So there it is!!!
JOHN YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeh, he is great, real shame we won't be seeing him in any possible sequal, all the best though.

Guess I will do the first post for Elwood then? http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif

John is really someone I look up to, too. I get the same thing - people tell me that he's an awful role-model to have, but they're wrong. Alot of people haven't bothered to read into his life and how he was off-screen. Well I'm sure alot of you guys here have, but you get the general idea.

R.I.P, John Belushi. http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif

I love John he was so cool and he actually is a great role model. I miss him even if i wasn't alive in his time!

In school in February i got my 1st Blues Brothers CD for my birthday and I asked my homeroom/LA teacher if she'd ever heard the song 'Guilty' and she's like "No i haven't, who sings it?" (at the time I didnt know it was by Randy Newman) so I said "I don't know, but on here it's by the Blues Brothers, John belushi sings it."

you know what she said?

"You shouldn't get too caught up with him. He was a bad person and he made horrible choices."

I just stood there. I couldn't believe my teacher, of all people, would say something like that about someone so great.

Anyway, I really like John (more then Dan, sad to say) and I hope I get to see Neighbors soon, then I'll have seen all his movies!

I can't believe your teacher said that!!! If that was me I would have probably started to cry. Its one thing to say stay away from drugs but to tell you not to like your hero is just wrong!!!! WOW!

Yeah John was and still is great in my eyes.

He is so funny in Neighbors!!! I had to get the movie on tape though which kind of sucks I really wanted it on DVD. My favorite scene is when he locks Danny in the basement and tries to use the phone. Well I won't give too much away but it was really funny what happens.

Yes I like John more then Dan now. Like 4 months ago I would say Danny was my favorite but now its John! He is so great!!!!

Unfortunately, I've only recently become aware of his body of work. I don't know much about his films but after reading Samurai Widow, I have a lot of respect for him. It made me realize he wasn't just some junkie who threw his life away. I hope to learn more about him in the coming months and maybe someday he'll be my hero, too.
I can't believe your teacher said that, Beacky. She obviously scraped together an image of him from the media and hasn't bothered to look into the amazing person he was. Teachers shouldn't be so ignorant.

I wouldn't go as far to say that John Belushi was my hero. But he defiantly shined a new light on drugs for me; and because of his death that I well never do drugs. His death was for a reason the Lord works in Mysterious ways. That is true. Now nothing is wrong with what your teacher said. Every body is entitled to their own opinion, what ever it may be. All my teachers including my Principle all liked SNL and loved John Belushi and Akroyd they grew up with them. But they all fell he made a lot of wrong choices in life and was not particularly a good roll model. Now I don't feel john is a good roll model but a good example to show people what choices not to make, he was a great man but every body has their flaws; for him it was drugs. Same with many stars Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix died of drug related causes. They are also good examples well except for Elvis I don't think he really stood for much he was a supporter for Black rights, though so that's good other then that he was pretty much a nothing to me o and I would love to thank Elvis for just being such a cool character that I now have a funny skit based on him. Well I fell good to get that off my chest thanks for reading

The only thing that I have to say is this:

While a junior in high school, my chemistry teacher (of all people) taught me a very unique lesson. He listed lifestyles of past world leaders (without giving names), and based on those short descriptions (such as "drank heavily" or "never cheated on his wife or drank") we had to vote for the person we thought was the best person.

Well ... essentially, the person who drank heavily was Churchill and the person who never cheated on his wife or drank was Hitler. In essence: it doesn't matter what a person does, but who they are. A vice is just that: a vice and nothing more. It doesn't mean that the person's life always revolves around that vice, or that they essentially are to be a representative of that vice.

A human is a human, and we (mostly) are all taught to believe the best in people. So, flaws are inevitable and should be expected. Belushi wasn't the first to dip into drugs, and he certainly is not the last. The fact that drug-use took his life is something to be learned from, but it also should not overshadow our opinion of him as a human being.

I would hate for someone to condemn my life just because of some of the mistakes I've made in the past ...

I completely agree with Jean. Matt, I get what you're saying, too. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I wasn't saying they weren't, but I just find it ignorant to make assumptions of people based on few facts. Yes, John made some mistakes but we shouldn't categorize him in anyway because of it. Those aren't his only characteristics, and they're not the reason someone might consider him a role model. He was a great person and a loving husband.

I agree with him too very moving but it was not John Belushi past I didn't agree with it he was a great man and a kind man but a drug addict now sometimes I don't want to believe he was an addict but a guy looking for some fun in all the wrong places and that was the thing that killed him and that was the choices he made that's why I think he is a good example as to not do drugs he had every thing he needed in life and it goes to show you how fast it can all go away and I am sure he well never be forgotten just he well never be a roll model for me I under stand how good of a man he was and I don't catholicize him I just don't have a roll model I am my own roll model I do my best to help who ever I can when ever I can when I am not helping my father with something I am volunteering helping kids with autism volunteering my services at homes for the disabled and elderly homes I always do what I say I am going to do a year back I said I was going to build my own wrestling ring Bam a month later I had made my own wrestling ring said I would start a Blues Brothers Tribute band Bam its done I am my own roll model along with my parents and all the people I help on my to do list Learning how to spell was on the bottom

Well I don't want to become evil again... so at this point I will be keeping my thoughts to myself. You know what I have just one question was this to get back at me or something??? I've been trying to be nice...seriously. But you add that little spelling thing and I know that was for me. I've kept my mouth shut that whole time you were trying to find this man's grave. O wait let me use your words "Can't find his Damn Grave" Wow what a great fan!!!! Okay I'm going to stop. I'm sorry. Well no I'm not but you know.

Anyways John was great did you know that in his high-school years he was strongly against drugs and alcohol? Yep its true. I think Judy wrote it in Samurai Widow. She use to drink all the time. If I remember correctly that's one of the reasons they broke up for a period of time. If only he stuck to his guns.

P.S. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I'm all for it too. I just gave mine so there you have it!

so he did drugs and drank and smoked cigeretts in the 70's and early 80's , who didnt ?? i did . am i a bad person ? my daughter dosn't think so and that's all that matters to me.

his death which has been talked about on other posts here on the site, was not his fault. some body ( i know her name but dont like to say it ) gave him more than he could handle.

the people who critize him for his drink and drug use are the bad people, not the ones who look at it and say , sorry it happened i will learn from it .but i will not condem the man /woman for it .

to err is human...

to forgive divine.

His voice is 'rubbed' and 'scratchy' near the end of the album "Made in America," and it's been attributed to cocaine in his biography Wired (which is a great biography, and when you read about the mounds of coke in the bungalow where he died you actually do get to a point where you almost can't breathe). But, that's not my news--just passing along what I read.

The thing that always ticks me off was that woman-thing knew what she was doing when she gave him all those fatal doses. He didn't. All she had to do was poke him for a second or two and then he'd have thought he was getting it IF he could even have felt it at all.

Speaking of that woman-thing, whatever became of her in more recent times?

Also, at the end of his life John was working on a script...whatever became of that? Anybody know?

Okay well the women thing I do believe she ran off to Canada. I know if I ever run into her (God forbid) I would give her a word or two. I personally blame it all on her. I forget what I was watching but they said that she tried to sleep with John and John turned her down. My theory she got pissed and knew that it was too much but gave it to him anyway. She waited until she knew he was gone left the house for a good story. Now I know there is some people on here that don't want to totally blame her. Which I guess is correct since John wanted the drugs. That's all.

Nobel Rot I believe was the movie they were working on the original title was Sweet Deception but John changed it. After reading about this in Wired (I think not sure) It sounds like that movie that just came out called Sideways. The plot is kind of the same with them going to different Vineyards and stuff. I wanted to check into this a little further but I haven't had the time. I hope this answered your questions. :D

Yeah, I'd like to poke the woman thing in the eye with my fist. I DO blame it on her because she wasn't tore up, she knew exactly what she was doing.

Thanks for helping on the script details. I need to re-read that book because I know it has more indepth information that I've since forgotten.

Did it get completed, I wonder? I suppose we'll never really know, but I bet whoever DID have the information about the script probably DID create something about the movie and got it sold in a different, edited way. Think so?

I know that after he died they stopped the whole thing. But like I said that Sideways movie seems an awful lot alike to the plot of Nobel Rot. I'm not sure. Like you said someone could have done all that and just made some changes.

Yes if I ever meet the [/i]women thing[/i] I would probably punch her or something. I know I was watching something on E and she was saying how no one could stop John and all this other stuff. All she had to do was leave if she knew it was too much but she didn't and look where he is now!!!! I really hate her!!!
