i found this on the net, think its pretty much the samt that jake sings:
"Shifty henry said to bugs, for heaven?s sake,
No one?s lookin?, now?s our chance to break.
Bugsy turned to shifty and he said, nix nix,
I wanna stick around and get my kicks."
jake definately sings "i wanna stick around..."
"nix, nix" is actually a german phrase, if you can call it that, for telling somebody "no chance". maybe it exists in other languages, too, i don't know just wanted to mention it ;-)
edit: talking about the new year's eve show: i found this site today: http://www.grateful-dead-picture.com/Grateful-Dead-Closing-of-Winterland.htm
they write that the show was on the 31st of december in 1978, i thought the show was in '79??

Yep, it was '78. I noticed that error when I first got my copy of "Groove Me". Also, on the spine of the CD, it's spelled "Grove Me", another obvious mistake, and spells Matt Murphy's name with only one T on the back. Great CD, though, lol! I just wonder why they left out "Messin' with the Kid"
