I see a lot of posts from people asking where to get a hat? Then I see the costume thread with many Blues impersonators who have very nice hats.

I want to hear from YOU guys where you got your hats. Online store? Local hat shop?

The closest match I've found was the Golden Gate Blues and the Jaxon Blues on VillageHatShop.com, so I know that site. Where else?

I got mine from J.C. Penney

I got everything I need....almost...

I believe I bougth mine at a "Classic Car Show" here in Sweden, I think it's pretty accurate. It's like a mix between Elwood's and Jake's

Got mine at a hat store that used to be in the South Plains Mall in Lubbock, TX, can't remember the name of it. Since then it's been a Texan/Western decorating store and a hot tub store (again...) - last I checked, anyway.

Now my poor hat is squished and needs reblocking. Too expensive though (got quoted US$75). ;)

There is a seller on eBay with some hats that look like they would do nicely.
...And, are pretty inexpensive.

NWT Mens Crushable Wool Felt Fedora Hat Black - eBay (item 370344653094 end time Aug-31-10 14:34:12 PDT)

I would have already grabbed one, but they run a little small.

23" is their Extra Large size.

Okay, great thread and one which fascinates me since I have yet to throw such a hat on my head.

I was gonna ask: So what kind of specifications should I look for - besides it being a black fedora? Some of the so-called 'Blues Brothers' hats seem to look either cheap or they seem to have tiny brims.

Smokey

Specs that are most essential, in my opinion are as follows:
- All black (of course)
- Grosgrain hatband finished with a bow.
- 4" crown, pinched in the front
- 1.75 - 2" brim, snapped up in back and down in front.
- Made of felt (I cannot tell if the authentic hats are fur or wool felt, but they do appear to be "crushable" which is more comfortable for me anyway. And this way if it gets sat on or "crushed" for any reason, it will not lose it's shape. Wool felt is significantly cheaper than fur felt.

The hat I own is the Jaxon Blues Crushable. I got it for $34 at VillageHatShop.com. It's a very nice hat.

Hope this helps!

So, as far as the screen accurate buffs go, which one is most correct? I can't help but notice the golden gate blues brothers hat costs twice as much as the jaxon blues and looks very similar. Anyone have the "definitive as of the site" answer?
