Is there a difference between "black" lenses and "gray" lenses...or are they the same?

PS: As a suggestion, in the BBC Costume breakdown section, they should include props, such as their briefcase, screwdriver, glue, harmonica, handcuffs, key, etc.

sometimes the grey lenses are not grey at all, but more of an opaque dark blue all the time, where the black looks more like a black when viewed from the front but look like a dark blue when the light shines through them. The proper blues shades (as used in the 1st film) seem to have brown lenses.
