Good news for some, bad for others.

Dating back to 2008:

Jack Black States He Will Never Play John Belushi In A Biopic Of His Life

February 21st, 2008 - Written by Dave Parrack

I’m not a big fan of biopics, as you rarely get to see a true reflection of the person whose life is playing out on screen. Instead you get to see a version of someone jointly created by the actor playing them, the director, and the writer, who with the help of family and friends tries to concoct a believable story while keeping those important cinematic elements of love and intrigue in there.
So I’m actually really pleased to hear that Jack Black has ended the speculation, which seems to have started purely because of a physical likeness, that he’ll play fellow funnyman John Belushi in a biopic of his life.
The star of Be Kind Rewind told Canadian newspaper The St Catherine’s Standard (reported here via Digital Spy):
“[Belushi’s] life is not as funny as his work, and watching me do an imitation of him doing his Saturday Night Live bits won’t be as funny as watching him do his SNL bits.”
“Just because the guy is an amazing and compelling artist doesn’t mean that telling his story is going to be interesting to watch.”
Black also cited Jim Carrey’s 1999 portrayal of Andy Kaufman in Man On The Moon as a bad example of the genre which proves his point.
Belushi died of a drugs overdose in 1982, at the tender age of 33. A biopic has long been rumoured, but never seems to get off the ground. Twenty five years after his death I’d hazard to say that maybe any idea of the film should just be shelved, and the man be left in peace.
Whatever happens, Jack Black will not be going anywhere near it.

I don't see a lot of parallels between what John did with comedy and what Jack Black does now so this doesn't really surprise me. And he makes a good point about whether John's life would make a good transition to a feature length narrative. Even in the right hands, it could fall short any number of places.
"Sunday morning everybody's in bed,
I'm on the street, I'm talking out of my head,
This dumb brick wall ain't heard a word
That I've said.."

Thank God......suddenly,I have a little more respect for Jack Black.

A little.
I got everything I need....almost...

"I was growing sick of rock and roll, it was starting to bore me...and I hated disco, so I needed some place to go. I hadn't heard much blues before. It felt good."-John Belushi

(Still inspiring me--and knowing me like a book)

Jack Black wouldn't be good for a JB biopic. He looks nothing like him.

I just saw on the net that there is a possibility that a belushi biopic may be in discussion. It'll be directed by Todd Phillips who directed the hangover and may star zach galifianakis as the man himself. Its very new info so I would take it with a pinch of salt but it sounds kinda interesting. Glad Jack Black said no! BTW I thought Man on the Moon was a great film!!

No offense zach galifianaki, but IMHO he looks more like mighty mac than belushi.

Very well said Jack:

“[Belushi’s] life is not as funny as his work, and watching me do an imitation of him doing his Saturday Night Live bits won’t be as funny as watching him do his SNL bits.”

“Just because the guy is an amazing and compelling artist doesn’t mean that telling his story is going to be interesting to watch.”
One scary soul band as mean and righteous as a fist.
