What were the little holes that were on the Bluesmobile in front of the orphanage?

That's a good question!
Before investigating, I felt sure they were random dents, but after going through the scene several times frame-by-frame, I now think they're not random dents. I think they're not randomly positioned, and if I had to guess I would say they're not dents - but holes. Holes make more sense considering they're in a pattern too. Why create a specific pattern of dents?

Maybe a camera mount? But why would the holes be rectangular instead of circular? I'm at a loss.

Production photos from The Blues Brothers Gallery would definitely support the camera mount theory. Trooper C. Mount if you will. Cam we call him. :P

Nice find, Steam! I think you've solved this mystery.

Here are other shots of front mounts that I saw under "behind-the-scenes / production stills".

your friend in satisfying answers,

Are we sure they are not shadows/reflections on the fender? I can't believe that they would puncture obvious holes in the Blumo prop for a camera mount (those rectangles would have to be precision-cut)...I would think any camera would have been clamped on....

I'm sure they're not shadows/reflections, as the "holes" follow along with the car (see attached pics)

> those rectangles would have to be precision-cut
Even considering a little bit of blur due to screen snapshots of a moving car, it does seem that they aren't circular holes. Maybe the "holes" are actually rectangular pieces of electrical tape stuck on the side of the car.

I like the tape theory. It seems to only be supporting a wire or cable ...

There were supposed to be different cars for these shots. But it looks like for the Orphanage shot they used a Blumo that had been used with a camera mount at some time. The markings appear to be in the exact location as the production still. Could they be the ghost marks of where the tape was?

Yep. The blemishes are much clearer when you see the film in motion...thanks, Art. :BB:

I'm with Steam....kinda looks like tape, or maybe remnants of "mount smudging", as they don't really have "depth" like a penetration would have....http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif
