Gidday frugal Dugal, did ya google? :o Haha. The database here lists the Vic as a 1990 ...
The Cars :: Blues Brothers Central
Bluesmobile.net (now defunct) used to say a BB2000 Bluesmobile could be cloned from a 1989 to 1991 Crown Vic. As far as I know, the only exterior reason why they wouldn't have included the 1988 is the turn signal lens, clear vs. amber. A pretty easy swap I would think if you happened upon a 1988 cop Vic and wanted it to look like a '89-'91. Only a Blues Brothers fan would do something like that by the way. I mean seriously, who would do something like that? Haha.
Do you already have a Crown Vic ready for transformation?

Here's a little trivia for ya.
The script was written for a 1990 but there is a slip in the movie...
What I affectionately call a 'Blumo GPS', is Elwood in the ashtray.
Mac 'pulls down' the ashtray to speak to Elwood. That is a 1989 ashtray.

Just thought you should know...

Interesting that the ashtray in that screencap is an '89. Any dash and steering wheel visible in the movie were '90-'91, including in that pic. Some of the movie cars were '88 or '89, but you couldn't see the dash or steering wheel in them... unless the car in that pic was actually an '88 or '89 with a '90 or '91 dash and wheel.
In any case, I'd say they paid more attention to interior consistency in BB2K than in the first movie (morphing door panels, for example). The BB2K cars didn't all have the same style door panels, but all the panels you can actually see in the movie are the same.

They were constantly trading parts between the cars.
#42 has #46's trunk lid
#57 has #'1's nose
#31 had to use #57's seats for critical scenes (31's were red)
My #57 and Billy's #58 were stable mates...and donors...lol

Well,
I purchased a 1991 crown vic yesterday!!! It has the same blue interior as the movie car. The only difference is the 91 had clear lense parking lights .... ugh. I open the trunk and find 3 boxes of spare parts along with a complete set of amber parking lights. My prayers were answered ... ya !!! With them on you would have a hard time telling it was not a 1990 car.
She will need a bit of mech work, body work and a new paint job to be a BB2000 car, but that is the direction I am going with it. The fun BEGINS !!! Anyone know the model of spottlights they used ??
Cheers

Congrats, dugal! I'm glad to hear there will be another BB2K BluMo out there. There should be more of them!
I don't know of any plans for the push bars, but the first page of Huey's album on Photobucket has some good pics of the ones on movie car #43:

These are from my original movie car #66. All the pieces are 1/4" x 2 1/2" steel plate. The rubber strips are 1" x 2" x 21 3/4" and are glued to the steel plates.
