I know you'll hear this alot, but really really consider if you want all the upkeep and general nuisance of a piercing, especially in the first year. I don't have any fancy ones, but when I was 11 I begged and yearned after a second set of ear piercings because they just looked SOOOO cool. (Also I was behind all my schoolmates getting my first ear piercing because I was too chicken for so long, and so I also wanted to play catch-up and/or surpass them.) They do look good, and I still think they do...but not even three years later I just quit wearing earrings in the second holes. I even go through long periods of time when I don't wear any in the primary holes. And when I finally do, I have to treat them really gingerly (ie, don't wear them all day on the first day, don't fall asleep or lay down on them) or my ears get irritated pretty quickly.

And there are a lot of people that also say "Oh, if you get tired or grow out of it, you can just let it close up." Not always so, it really depends on the location of the piercing (for septums, I don't know how it goes) and how your body tends to heal and develop scar tissue. (My surgery scar from 2008 was a little rough to start with, but is already lighter than my husband's surgery scar from 2001. Given, they are in different locations of the body.)

If you do decide to go through with it, have a look at the shop's setup before you commit to one. Check credentials and even ask for client references, or go where your friends have gone and gotten a good experience. Don't try to be a badass and immediately go for a gauge (size) of jewelry that you're not ready to handle - you can always stretch it by gradually increasing the gauge.

Back in the mid-80s, my sister got 3 piercings in her septum (because, you know, one bull ring in the middle of her nose just wasn't enough). :BB: She did it herself with a safety pin, as any self-respecting punk rock chick in the 80s would do. She wore three rings on occasion, but usually just wore the studs on the side of her nose (2 on each side).

Yes. My sister was a human pin cushion.

What she didn't realize, back in her teens, was that when she turned 40 or so and developed frequent sinus infections, it would become a problem. I will spare the gory details, but it's not pretty. She can only wear one of her studs, and even then it's painful because of the sinus issues. The septum piercings have pretty much closed up, but every once in a while, they reopen when she has to blow a lot, and it's just a painful experience.

Just something else to consider.

@ Amy: i wanted them for a long time and a cousin of mine pulled me over the line, i got now snakebites for a year and a half and had one in the middle of my lower lip and one in my upper lip, i also got one in my nose but that one is going out when i get the septum.

@Jo: i'm not gonna do it my self, i got a shop were i go for over 3 years and also set my tattoo, the guy told me that it is possible that it can bleed. The shop is one of the three bests (the three best are from the same boss) and got a great reputation.

Google art thy friend. The septum V is referring to is part of the nose. If you're not sure what she's talking about, then how can you know if it's "messed up" or weird in any way?

Not intrested, I got tat's and that dont bother me.

What evryone else does w/ Tattoo's or piercing's dont bother me to a point, Do what ya like I just dont need details when it comes to the little extra wild stuff.

That's just my personal boundary, and good luck everyone else!
