Considering the shape of this watch, it is sort of the "missing link", between the two screen used watches... Like a hybrid of both.

Yeah...I re-watched bits of the movie, frame-by-frame, and Elwood's watch seems to be an oddball type of LCD watch...his is squarish-shaped, and frikkin' huge....believe me, I've been searching the web extensively for the last 3 years, looking for a screen accurate watch like his, but as of right now, I have had no luck (I've got one just like the one in the link above, and mine still works, but it's awfully small). http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif

Some one here at one time listed the Timex model number of El's watch, but I can't remember what it was, or who posted it...and all the research I've done so far has not turned up a model that resembles Elwood's, yet...are we even sure it's a Timex brand?

Maybe Jakes watch is a Timex and Elwoods is another brand?

A Timex 994802 SSQ LED is mentioned. The watch in the auction is definitely part of the SSQ family, you can see it on the face plate, but a search on that model number brings us back to the thread here ...

We're not sure about Elwood's watch. Here it is from the Soul Food Cafe ...

Now that I think about it, how funny would that be? Jake has Ray-Bans, Elwood has knock-offs - Jake has a Timex, Elwood has a knock-off ... lol. Although by 1979 the Timex SSQ was being mass produced in Taiwan so they were affordable to the masses.

I remember starting a thread... way back, when I discovered the model of Jake's watch.
I did post #'s for that watch, but not Elwood's.
Although there was discussion of how square Elwood's watch is and that the watchband
is a silver replacement.

Here is my watch.
(I believe) It's a dead ringer.

Here is a wristwatch I found on ioffer.com, a while back, but it was already
sold, by the time I was able to contact the seller.

Posted Image

It is the same watch.... only with no writing on the face.

It might be the only thing closer to Elwood's, then the first watch above it.

* Although perhaps Elwood's watch does have writing on it ?
(I've never been able to tell 100%, one way or the other)

edit:
Keep a saved search for "gold LED wristwatch", and you'll find one. ;)

I'm waiting on car parts, so thought I'd expand my horizons and check out other areas of the message boards.

What kind of watch band do you think Elwood has? I first thought it was a stretchy-expansion band, but now I don't think so.

Pic 1, I believe, shows Elwood wearing his watch backwards with the face pointing towards himself, and you can see a clasp at the "back" of the band.

Pic 2 clearly shows the watch face in the regular wear position.

Pic 3 shows that in the regular wear position, the watch face would be visible from the angle in pic 1.

So does this indicate that its a regular band with a clasp, with just the smallest amount of taper (the width of the band at the clasp is slightly narrower than the width of the band where it mates to the watch face)? Without this pic, I would have thought it was a stretchy-band. Maybe it still is.

I've been busy for a while, but here's what I managed to gather from the watch site I joined...the consensus is that Elwood's watch is a Quartzmatic, as shown here:

Excellent Quartzmatic LED watch

Or, a Mintron, as shown here (I don't thinks so, IMHO):

Mintron LED Watch

Here are quotes from the forum:

"That is actually a fairly big case - a good 25%+ bigger than any Timex. The watch not having the Quartzmatic logo on the screen means little, as those crystals, being plastic, were commonly replaced."

Here's another screen cap...

At any rate, it is believed to be a Timex knock-off (like his sunglasses)....I'm still in conversation with them about this, so I'll let you know when they update the thread....;)

I got a quartzmatic LED watch from Ed at retroleds.com. It was great working with him. He hooked me up with a new red plastic crystal (without the quartzmatic logo), and also included the original crystal. I got it with a gold clasp band. For this quartzmatic, the crystal is 28mm, and the band is 19mm.

I'm still not positive that Elwood had a clasp band; I include comparison picture between my band and Elwood's. It appears that Elwood's had more links per inch (and is silver instead of gold), but the comparison may be useful for clasp analysis.

My goodness I didn't realize there were so many different versions of that watch out there. Maybe I should hang on to my smiley face watch huh? It still works! They say everything old becomes new again.
