I've heard good things about Windows 7. I've not had a chance to use it, myself (though I briefly played with the beta when it was released).

The interface has been redecorated a bit. It's similar to Vista, but the task bar looks a bit different. Some different icons as well.

From my understanding, it's a bit like what XP was like to Windows ME -- a big improvement with a similar design. Allegedly much more stable as well.

Like any other new OS, there's some compatibility issues with old software, though.

I'm-a probably wait for the service packs to be released first.

Anybody who's actually had a try at it wanna weigh in and confirm/deny?

EDIT:: Also, couple of posts from Lifehacker you might find useful or just interesting --

I just got a Netbook with Win7 Starter on it, which comes with a lot of stupid restrictions that are supposed to help "streamline" the netbook, but don't really have an effect on speed. For example, I can't set my own desktop background. :) But apparently they're supposed to be phasing that kind of thing out.

I also think it's so you'll pay to upgrade (especially on larger computers that come with Starter).

I've only had it a week, but it's very similar to XP, which I have been using for a long time (never bothered with Vista.) I'm also not aware of how well the Home Basic or Home Premium editions work, so I can't sound off on those yet.

Windows 7 is in my opinion the best Windows since XP. Lot more faster (that might be caused by my SSD harddrive). It has never bluescreend. I like it very much.

I use Windows 7 Home Premium

*laughs softly* Eh, each OS founder has his or her issues, just like their operating systems and software do.

I went from XP to 7 with my newest PC purchase (couldn't afford a Mac. *sob*) It's fine, although it takes some getting used to. I am happy with it, although I have yet to run much on my computer except basic net and word.

Mine came with a crappy trial of Word and Excel in Office 2007 Student & Home edition or something. It would only do a read-only mode unless I had the product key, which they DID NOT to include with the machine. >:) Again, they want me to pay to upgrade. So needless to say, *cough*Hack*cough*bootleg*cough*sneeze*

I'm also having trouble installing older programs, namely a basic photo editor I got back with Win98 that I still love and worked well with XP. It has this install helper thing that pops up anytime a program makes changes, and though I've disabled it, it's still giving me hell. I'm also having trouble opening photos in it via the Preview function (in folder view.)
