Well, I swore that I would not buy or build another B'mobile but... here we go again. Seems like two just isn't enough and when one is done, you find yourself bored and ready to do another. Therefore, when the rusty hulk Monaco from Nebraska shows up in the next few days, the fun will officially begin. I am opening this thread to post updates and pictures throughout the entire build. I am hoping to have completed the car within a 2 week time window. We'll see how that works out. All words of encouragement are gladly taken as well as offering some "constructive criticism" lol. So here we go.

Also my shipper is jerking me around so I am planning on making a "do or die" run to Omaha to drive that Sh!t box home. Anyone going to be in the area this weekend? Say, somewhere near Kansas City, St. Loius... you never know. I bought my first car several years ago from the Alabama boys and drove her home like I stole it. Wish me luck fellas.

This is a tale of epic proportion that only a true Monaco fan will appreciate. Well, I left out of Evansville, IN. Yesterday afternoon at 5:00. 68 degrees and sunny. My and a buddy drove a $500.00 Dodge D-150, that gets 50 miles to a quart of oil, to Kansas City on the way to Omaha to pick up the Monaco. Just north of KC we started to get snow. Then more... and more... and then a "thundersnow". Within 45 minutes there was 6" on the ground topping off somewhere around 11" total. Winds like the devil himself blowing. I29 N is slowed down to 15-20mph. We're all over the road. Cars in ditches on both sides. RV's on their roofs, semi trucks toppled... chaos, panic and disorder. We roll into Bellevue, Ne. around 8:00 this morning after driving all night. Meet the kid with the car. Title and keys in hand. Car is covered in snow and the doors are frozen shut. Get it jumped and begin the journey back. There is a hole in the drivers side floor as big as a basketball neatly covered with a BBQ grate as to prevent your feet from hitting pavement. Nice. The car itself is what I expected. In some ways better. I had very low expectations so I was pleased. Great owner history and all paperwork/owners book and more. Anyway, we drive back to I29 and it is shut down due to a serious accident. So we drive back to Omaha and across the entire state of Iowa to I74 and head south down the entire state of Illinois. I just pulled in the driveway. She never missed a beat. Floated down the road great. Even had a bonus. An old Shakespear CB mounted to the hump for chatting with truckers. Well, I will crash for tonight and begin the recovery period. Good night.

Bluesmobile. Cool.
Flintstones. Cool.

But if you have a bluesmobile foot hole, you need the BBQ grate protector. Wild!

Thanks for the nice writeup; keep us posted!

Well, this is the start to the latest car. This car is very, very rough but... I drove it home to southern Indiana from Omaha, NE. Everything works on and in it and it drove great! Just very, very, very rusty. Oh well. I'll strip it down inside tomorrow and see where I'm at with the floors. Drop off the seats at the upholstery shop and get ready to sand. Go easy on me. It's been a long 2 days.

What perfect timing that you start your trip right as we get a late season snowfall.
Probably the last of the year and will be completely gone, in a couple days.

But, it's those kind of adventures that stick with you as (hopefully) fun memories.

Really looking forward to seeing this project develop and these photos
are a great kick off to that.

Wishing you good luck... from concept, to completion.

Glad to see that trip had a happy ending . Had a few similar that didn't . Made a comment on this car when it first showed up for sale and thought it was on its last leg ," but damn " you were brave enough to make a go of it . You might want to open those shed doors a little more , it's looking like a tight fit . Don't get to upset when you take the vinyl off , there's a whole bunch more under there (maybe) as there was on mine and it was a rust free Arizona car .
Good luck and keep us updated (pics) and any info needed is always free .
Chris .

Thanks Chris! My last 2 cars I got lucky and had really good sheet metal. Time and the elements have caught up with me. Maybe all of us. In 2010 it is getting tough to find a solid '74 Monaco. I blame the demo guys lol.

Today I made a few strides. Started out at the muffler shop. Since I drove it home 13 hours with only 5" of pipe coming out of the manifolds blasting me with HUUUUMMMM all the way home, I had brand new duals with glass packs put on. Patched the drivers floor and thankfully that was the only bad spot inside. Mounted the spot light, ripped off the vinyl top and dropped the seats off at the upholstery shop. OUCH! Prices on upholstery have gone up. Especially for plane Jane vinyl. I am prepared to have invested way too much time and money into this project that I will never sell it. The guy at the muffler shop said, "are you sure you want to install a $400.00 exhaust on a $200.00 car?" I said,"you're damn right!" lol.
