I have seen the BB Revue act twice at the Stirling theatre in Ontario and these guys have a LOT going for them. Talked to them after both shows and both were professional, polite and really liked it when I brought my bluesmobile to the first show. Looking forward to the TV shows.
Cheers

To be successful at all, the show is going to have to be as outrageous and adult today as the original was in 1980. Adult comedy, adult situations, adult language -- it has to dare to be rude and to break ground -- and contemporary, electric blues/soul. Belushi's widow may own some (all?) of the rights to the BBs, but it seems to me that for it to work on TV, Aykroyd should be involved in some creative capacity. It also should be broadcast on a cable network or on FX (like Nip/Tuck).

The first drawback I see is that the two actors have helped write the script. Does anyone really know who they are? Do they have writing ability? Anne Beatts is incredible -- but does she have a handle on who the Blues Brothers are?

The biggest drawback to me is how generic and non-informative the press release was. When will production begin? Who's the musical coordinator? Are Danny and Landis involved at all? Is a network interested? Is Universal involved? There really aren't a lot of answers, which leads me to suspect that, right now, Judy is just fishing for interest in a series that really doesn't exist except on paper. Probability that it will really happen? 20%.

But I want it to happen. I'll give it a shot. If it's rude enough, funny enough, and the music kills, people will watch.

ive been playing Elwood for 15 years in a theatre show here in the U.k but i would'nt like the task of being in this. I mean i get lots of nice comments on stage because i emulate all of Aykroyds manerisms and stuff. But playing him in a tv show Big shoes to fill..

On the surface it seems pretty cool. It has the potential to bring new fans in, but will it satisfy us hardcore fans who have made the Brothers a part of our lives? I honestly hope all the best for this as long as it works well for everyone.

From the short description presented, I'm getting the feeling that the definition of this show should be...
"A mockumentary of a tribute band".

I hope it develops into more than just that.
I'm holding out hope... but I'm not really feeling it.

According to the Indo-Asian News Service, not only is John still alive ... he also wrote the scripts for the tv show.

Quote

Actor John Belushi is turning musical comedy classic Blues Brothers into a TV show.

According to the reports, Belushi has teamed up with Saturday Night Live writer Anne Beatts to write the script for the small screen adventure that will star Kieron Lafferty and Wayne Catania as Jake and Elwood Blues.

"I've written a script with one of the Saturday Night Live writers, Anne Beatts, and with Kieran and Wayne. We have scripted it over six to eight shows where they are on a mission down the Mississippi back to New Orleans," said Belushi.
Heh, we know it's Judy. I just thought it funny that John was still working and none of us knew it.

If Aykroyd is okay with the TV show, I will be, too. I just hope to see cameos including him and Jim. I thought they were working on a straight to DVD movie with Elwood and Zee--what happened to that?

I won't knock it just yet. I want to see more and find out what the "mission" is supposed to be. I just don't like that they are trekking back "down the Mississippi to New Orleans" again. I can think of 2000 different ideas for Jake and Elwood to have misadventures in. The story is about the only complaint I really have.

If I find out, though, that it is in modern times and not a period piece, then I will be bothered. After all, the first film picks up with Jake getting out of jail and both going back in; the second film picks up with the loss of Jake and Elwood finally getting free, ending with Elwood escaping. There is a specific chronology there.

Specials, TV shows, concerts...I can see them being given a 'leave' from prison to do those.

So, I guess I would hope the TV show happens sometime before Jake goes to jail?

Do we know that Elwood was in prison continuously between the two movies? Couldn't both Jake and Elwood have gotten out at some point after the first movie and had further adventures, then Elwood was re-imprisoned at some point?

I like the idea of the show being made with Showtime or HBO so they can do a show that truly captures the "no mucking about" spirit of the original movie. However i think the traditionalists need to go into this with more of an open mind. Obviously no one could play Jake and Elwood the same way John and Dan did, and we'd only be fools to expect or even hope someone will. I think the best we can do is appreciate the effort that Judy Belushi Pisano and countless others are going to, to keep the dream alive.

Take it easy. Cheers.

Hey, 3L! :D These guys are still touring Australia (March/April), and any articles I've read lately don't mention the television show at all. It could still be happening, who knows? I'm actually rather doubtful that it will ever be. To be absolutely honest with you ... I pray to Jebus that this abomination will never come to fruition ... LOL!! :)

Hey...If John's workin' on it, I'm sure it's gonna be good. On the other hand, when was the last time TV did justice to a film? M*A*S*H ? Right. I hope this pig don't fly.
