The links that take you where to purchase the Jaxon C-Crown Crushable Fedora are dead.

I must say, though these do make great blues brothers hats, they are not exactly like what Elwood wears in the movie. His hat has a very thick hat band and a pinched crown with probably no more than a 2" brim. The Golden Gate is the closest match, but you need to either steam or mist the crown and redefine the pinch in the front to really get the look you want.

WatchBreaker, I own two of these hats, a black and brown. While they are some of my favorite hats, they are not quite the right style. Attached is a picture of me in my black Jackson C-Crown. The brim is too wide. Don't get me wrong, it can complete the outfit nicely and most won't even notice the difference, but it sounds like you're going for accuracy.

Is the Golden Gate really more accurate? I mean, I by no means am a hat expert...but it looks kinda tall to be Elwood's hat.

Any pics of what the Golden Gate looks like on a person?

I don't necessarily need 100% 1:1 accuracy, but as accurate as possible at least. I already have an economy brand Elwood hat which does just fine in most cases, but if I upgrade I want the most accurate I can get.

I just don't understand why no one can, with absolute certainty, identify what type of hat the Blues Brothers wear. Is it just a custom made hat? Is the company that makes it dead? Does Dan Aykroyd just not want to pimp the company that makes it so he keeps it a secret? It just seems bizarre to me this bit of trivia is not available anywhere on the internet.

The Golden Gate is the closest match I've seen so far, but like I said, you'll need to refine the pinch in the front for the most accurate look. I do own a Golden Gate, but either my head grew or the hat shrunk because it's too small for me now. The thumbnail I've attached is a picture of me and a friend in Blues attire. I'm on the right and I'm wearing my Golden Gate (my friend is wearing a fedora we bought from Hot Topic). I've also attached links from Village Hat Shop's customer gallery where Blues fans are posing in their Blues attire, wearing the Golden Gate hats. Hope this helps.

This is also a much cheaper alternative. I haven't seen this hat in person yet, but I as I indicated earlier, my wider-brim fedora is a Jaxon hat and a very nice one. This Jaxon blues hat also looks very accurate.

Jaxon Blues Crushable

As for the brand of hat from the movie, perhaps they never really kept track. It seems whenever Dan makes an appearence as Elwood, the hat is always different slightly, so I guess for the movie, no one bothered to keep record of the brand. Trust me, I wish that information was available too.

Okay, if that's what the hats look like, they indeed look very accurate. Stock photos don't do them justice.

But, I'd once again like to reiterate that the links in Ray's Music Exchange are broken (for me at least...I don't know about you. When I click on Amazon I get "page does not exist") Whoever runs this site would probably want to know that.

Being the penny-pincher I am, I might not be able to convince myself to buy a replica Blues Brothers costume, but it's nice to know what the best options are. I'll probably go to prom next year as Elwood...maybe my mom would buy them for me since I'd otherwise be using none of her money on clothes. Thanks for the info. :BB:

Yes, I'll see if I can't write and get those updated. I'd like to have them take the Jaxon C-Crown off there too as people may be disappointed when they go to buy one. Best of luck to you in your search of the perfect hat. I'm sure if your mother is buying the hat for you, she won't mind the $32 price tag on the Jaxon Blues Crushable as opposed to the $72 price tag on the Golden Gate!

The costume doesn't have to be expensive. Go to a Goodwill and buy a pair of black pants for under $10, a suit jacket for around $20, white shirt (if you don't already have one) for $7-8. A tie at Walmart for $10, (I think I've seen the skinny ties on Amazon.com for cheap too). And then of course the Wayfarers (You can get knockoffs anywhere, but the best knockoffs in my opinion are here: Replica Ray Ban Sunglasses, Fake Ray Bans, Knockoff Ray Ban Sunglasses I've attached a pic of me wearing my knockoffs I got from there so, again, you can see what they actually look like.

Well, I already have a complete Elwood get up. I already had a suit jacket, shirt, pants (my mom bought me new ones anyway...*shrugs*), and shoes. I just had to buy a cheapo hat and cheapo sunglasses (I think I actually have the type you linked to). I do need a skinnier tie though.

When you complete the look, post your pic on here of you in costume! I'm interested to see what you came up with :BB:
