The music is somewhat infectious, and has become an earworm. Not that I mind. *g*
And, as always, you can find a video for it on Youtube:

Have fun looking for Danny. *g* I know I did.

Truth be told, there must have been more than one person in that room who was wondering ...
'What's with the Canadian?' haha

Steam - well, apparently, Danny was there to represent the film industry, but also, as the Blues Brothers existed prior to SNL, he was considered a musician.

Every time I watch the video, I'm actually kind of proud of him. (*Slightly sheepish, geeky smile*)

On the whole, I really do like this video. I love the simplicity of showing the artists, in the studio, gathered around the mics, or in the choir, singing together. I'm also semi-amused by the pop-shields in front of the mics -- they're designed to stop your breath or spittle from hitting the mic, 'cause when it does, it makes the mic go "pop" or "boom" on the track -- in some cases, it appears that they've simply bent some wire into shape and pulled a nylon sock over the top to make a pop-shield -- which is good enough advice, as I've seen folks say to do that before!
The sense of unity is awesome. Ray Charles' ad-libs of encouragement, too.
And that grin and thumbs up from Lionel Richie towards the end always garners a smile. ^__^

But, that was in fact inspired by "Do they know it's Christmas?", release the year before (1984) and came with just as much publicity.

Nowadays, most charity singles tend to be covers of other songs. While some are pretty awesome -- Wet Wet Wet's cover of, "(Get by) with a little help from my friends" for Childline was awesome, and I remember various Children in Need and Red Nose Day singles being released that also covered songs, such as, "When the Going Gets Tough (The Tough Get Going)", and the BBC's (British Broadcasting Corporation, not the Blues Brothers Central ^_~) Abba medley -- there are some ah.... somewhat more questionable covers. "Everybody Hurts" for the Haiti charity single by Simon Cowell? >.>;;;
"Do they know it's Christmas" and "We are the World" were rather more upbeat, and far more appropriate to their cause than the quickly flung together stuff we see nowadays.
