Vampires

Count Dracula was a consummate gentleman and Blade, was Shaft incarnate with badass clothes, a manly sword and other assorted gadgets. (ok ok, he’s ½ Vampire, but still…)
Granted the virus can infect anyone but my rant is about generational evolution of our beloved blood suckers.
(Must be because these movies are made for swooning tweens.)
I think it started down hill from ‘Lost Boys’ and ended with Twilight. I’m not saying Twilight is a *ahem* bad movie, just Edward comes across as ‘Tickle Me Emo’.
Sparkly Vampires? Dude, c’mon. Where’s Blade when you need him?
Nosferatu (1922), Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) were three of my favs, Again there are countless others that are good but these three I like! In my younger days I liked watching Barnabas Collins in ‘Dark Shadows’. Now there’s a Soap for ya!
(I can’t wait for the new Barnabas Collins. He will be played by Johnny Depp in the 2010 film by director Tim Burton!)
I don’t think he’ll be sparkly…or emo.

I agree, and if Hollywood had any balls, this is exactly what they'd do.....

I guess it wouldn't have the same passionate impact using a salad fork and cocktail straws.

Thanks, but I can't take credit for anything more than having the inspiration to post it in the thread.Actually I should thank Blueblood for giving me the perfect setup.
Or,to put it another way:
Be my guest,but remember....
If you steal it from me,you're stealing twice.

Blackwood Farm was good...until she dragged both the vamps and the taltos into it. Seriously, if (SPOILER, if you care) the evil spirit twin had just been some other kind of demon, and Quinn hadn't secretly been a Mayfair all along, it would have been an AWESOME book.
Twilight is good in theory, ridiculous in practice. It seems like Smeyer had a good mythos going, then got hooked on sugar cookies and My Chemical Romance and shot it all to hell.
I'm actually looking forward to the new "Daybreakers" movie. The premise and its version of the vampire mythos looks promising.
I haven't been able to get into True Blood. The characters are just too irritating and the show too...idk, typical "OMG we're on HBO, let's be shocking because we can."
I honestly never cared for either Blade or Bloodrayne, myself. But Bram Stoker's Dracula...HOLY CRAPSTICKS HOTT GARY OLDMAN. Oh, and Coppola directing, of course. I love that movie for so many reasons. And I was a big Buffy watcher...Spike fan over Angel, of course. (Not that I don't like Angel, but he was a little too broody for me until he got his own series.)
Myself, I'm working on a vamp novel right now that's equal parts sanguine and psychic vampirisim. (Who knows when it might see daylight, though...pun partially intended.)
I like my vamps badass, yet slightly gay.

An interesting note from Chemical Romance...
+2 Awesome coincidence. I actually like them an iota more now (not that I know any of their stuff in the first place.)
This is also funny that this thread came up. Shortly after my post here, I found where someone had posted excerpts from Rice's Memnoch the Devil (5th in the VCs) in LJ's weepingcock comm.
