Dan Aykroyd has been cast in an upcoming new dark comedy/horror film, to be directed by John Landis.

The movie, "Burke and Hare", is about the serial murders in Scotland from 1827-28:

The current cast list includes Dan Aykroyd, Simon Pegg (as William Burke), Bill Nighy, Minnie Driver and John Cleese, with ex Dr Who star David Tennant also recently confirmed to be playing William Hare.

Principal Photography is due to begin on January 25th, 2010 with a release date sometime next year.

Oh yay, another period piece for him! Loved his parts in "House of Mirth" and "Bright Young Things", but they were terrible movies! (Mostly because of the mediocre literature they're based on, but I digress.) We know Landis can handle a movie fairly well and keep it interesting, so this should be great!

I remember Stephen Fry being interviewed on a TV show here about "Bright Young Things", he said one of the highlights was when Dan Aykroyd walked into the room, and he released he was going to get to work with one of the Ghostbusters :BB:

I love the idea of David Tennant and Simon Pegg working together, both terrific actors with a great sense of humor. And John Cleese!!

Tennant + Pegg + Aykroyd + Cleese + Landis = EPIC :D

This has awesome written all over it.

Just doing some more reading, it looks like Aykroyd's involvement isn't 100% yet, Ealing Studios is stressing it's "subject to contract". I really hope he can make it, even though it probably means spending some time in the UK (hey, maybe he can use it as an opportunity to promote Crystal Head and meet some fans in between shooting? :))

The movie is being written by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft, whose only other major work together (that I can see) is "St Trinians" and "St Trinians 2".

According to Landis: "I am thrilled to be making a picture for Ealing. Burke And Hare have inspired a number of movies over the years, but Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft have written a unique and terrific screenplay which offers me a tremendous chance to make an historically accurate, very black, romantic comedy!"

I'm very optimistic :D

Here's hoping. <3 (You know, the company that owns HoB has a restaurant of a different brand in London - maybe Dan coming here would persuade him to open some HoBs here, too?)

I heard about the film before, on the Dan Akyroyd Daily LJ comm. They have really epic casting. I can see this being awesome. ^_^

If it's that epic, I'd hope to see Dan up for an Oscar again! It's been 20 years since the last nomination...

Yes it has! I remember watching the Academy Awards that year, the look on Dan's face when he was announced is something I still have in my noggin. :o Haha, of course the entire world knows in advance who the nominees are, I don't think anyone expected Dan to win ... and he didn't. lol, I can remember watching the Awards that night ...

They're looking for extras!

Quote

Thugs, footmen, dignitaries, doctors, and ladies of the night are being sought for a new comedy feature film about Edinburgh's famous grave-robbers-turned-murderers Burke and Hare. Universal Extras are holding auditions for the parts at the Tolbooth in Stirling on Thursday 17th December from 9am to 5pm (people can turn up any time on the day according to the announcement).
The open call for extras on the Universal Extras bulletin board states:
"Parts available in this truly full of laughter feature film will include you playing role(s) such as; Thugs, Students, Pub goers, Footmen, Dignitaries, Doctors, Market sellers, Ladies of the Night and many more! Payment per filming day will be around £80. The role you are selected for will determine what you will be paid and the amount of days you will be required for over February and March 2010."

The fanboy was annoying as heck, but Landis and the camera dude took it really well. ^_^ That was real nice of them.
