Title: Soul by Soul and Silently
Author: Posted Imagefiona_conn
Fandom: Blues Brothers
Pairings: None
Characters: Elwood Blues, Zee Blues, Eleanor LaGrange, Scarlett Shanade
Rating/Warnings: G
Spoilers: none
Author's Note: Rememberance Day is coming up, and listening to Taps reminded me of my character, Eleanor, who was raised as an army brat. She becomes a blues sister, along with Scarlett (who belongs to Teresa). After talking to Teresa, we agreed that it could be written as a tribute to Curtis, though I also wanted to make it a tribute to those who gave their lives in service of their countries.

( The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, the love that makes undaunted, the final sacrifice... )

I finally read this (since I am on an all night fanfic read-a-thon!) and I was very impressed. You write so well, and you really brought out a bunch of emotions in this.

I admit, I first couldn't figure out the OCs, but then saw that you have other fics that probably develop them more. So, that's me reading in the wrong order I guess.

Happy New year!

Yeah, the OCs are from a fic that Teresa and myself are writing via email. It hasn't actually been posted anywhere yet, apart from this particular aside, and a second aside that I wrote recently.

Eleanor's a military brat, who had the problem of her dad treating her like one of his cadets. When Elwood finally found out what was going on, after she started missing band practices, he decided to "jailbreak" her. As you've probably guessed, she's my expy. Scarlett is Teresa's. Charles, who gets referenced in the fic, is also one of my OCs -- he's one of her Dad's colleagues, a sergeant in the army, and more of a father to her than her real dad ever was. He taught her about the blues, and how to play harmonica. He also tempered some of the militaristic thinking her Dad instilled in her.

However, you can take a military brat out of the military environment, but you can't quite eradicate years of military upbringing. While I've never experienced the military, nor brought up in it, I do know a lot of veterans, and through them, my respect for the men and women of the armed services has grown a lot. So, at the time this was written, I wanted to honour them, and to also honour the memory of those who gave -- and in some cases, lost -- their lives in combat. Teresa, as noted, also suggested it'd be an ideal way to honour Mr. Calloway as well.
