he'd be a great dad! the kids would always be hugging him because he's so squishy! xD

Gerry Marsden wants to give you a hug!

as much as i hate to say it but i dont think he would be that great a father , he had a great childhood, but his adult life was a mess, and belive me the pressures of being a parent is tremendous ! something i dont think he would be able to handle .
" Just trying to make everyone feel welcome " !
"Oh life is like a maze of doors and they all open from the side you're on
Just keep on pushing hard boy, try as you may
You're going to wind up where you started from "

i dont know about that, once you have kids, your whole world changes, who knows - john would have cleaned his life knowing he was in charge of someone else's

There's always a difference between being a Father and a Dad. Any guy with, um, working parts can be someone's father. It takes commitment to being a Dad, someone who's really there for a kid.
The assumption that adding babies to the equation will fix a crappy situation is irresponsible thinking at best.

The potential could have been in him, but when one is under the influence of a major addiction, that person's logic is not Earth logic. Counseling and rehab does more constructive good than "Surprise, I'm pregnant!" That could actually make stressful stimuli WORSE.

maybe having a kid would tell him that life was worth living because he had something that is more important to him then anything

As someone who now has a kid, and thinks about what environment he will be growing up in, maybe it was a good thing that John didn't have kids. How his wife and family feel, is another thing. It's not for me to say... but honestly, those kids would have grown up with some major issues knowing what happened to their dad. But again, it's just speculation...
Growing up in a family where there was a lot of alcohol abuse, it's no walk in the park. Been there, done that. I can only imagine what it would have been like if drugs were added to the mix. Actually, I don't want to imagine. It would have sucked to live in that world. And then to have a parent die from it?
The idea that people will just clean themselves up because of kids? It happens. But it's rare. When you are on drugs, you don't think straight. You don't think about your kids, or your family. You think about the next fix. Could Belushi have cleaned himself up for kids? Who knows. But that's a pretty risky experiment.
You know, I am a big fan. But these guys are not my idols. (But then again, I don't have idols.) So for me, I think it's amazing how people idolize these famous people, and then overlook so much of the yucky stuff that they do.
I feel bad that Belushi OD'd. It was a waste of a great talent. But just because he was a great talent doesn't mean he would have been a good father.
This all just confirms my own feelings. I really like the roles, music and talent that these actors had. But I will never idolize any of them. Honestly, I woouldn't even make an effort to get an autograph. If I bump into someone neat on an elevator, I don't even know if I'd go out of my way to bother them for a handshake. I mean why? They aren't going to ask for mine? And I'm a pretty neat person, who'se done some neat things in my life... but no one wants my autograph...
Oh well... that's just me.
