Have anyone of you out there got a virus?

Here's my story:

I had recently installed Win 7 when my old XP stopped working. I made some backups from my Win-hard drive with Linux. Then I installed Windows 7. After I had scanned for viruses with Microsoft Security Essentials, i found a trojan on my backup. It hadnt affected Linux because Linux is too hard to make virsues for, but it affected my Windows 7. Then I had it removed and I hope I dont see it again ;)

So, have anyone else here had any viruses?

I didn't ever got a virus and i hope it will be stayin' like that. I know that my uncle once had a virus and his screen turned red. I hope that i don't ever getting one, because i'm very afraid to lose my work on pc. What virusscanner or antivirus do you use?

This one: Microsoft Security Essentials - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It does only find 89 % of viruses... :) :-o

I work in a school-network administrator. We use Norton Corporate, it's about 98% effective. IN some extreme cases I did a local install of AVG to remove malicious software. I highly recomend it-and it's free!

One thing i will say though with AVG - not used it for a couple of years (use ESET / Nod32 these days) so they may of fixed the issue but it's worth mentioning. Before doing a scan on an infected machine TURN OFF THE SYSTEM RESTORE. yes the software removes / deletes / quarantines the virus, but it will be stuck in your system restore so if you need to do a system restore to undo anything due to the virus doing nasties, the virus will be back onto your system wreaking havoc, plus of course everytime you do a scan it will continue to report a virus it can't remove or fix until you delete the restore point.

i heard that upgrading a xp 'puter to win 7 isnt a good idea , something about you have to wipe out every thing on it to get it to upgrade.

you would loose every thing on you 'puter , the report said it would just be easier and cheaper, and safer to just buy a new one .

There are other options than replacing the entire PC unless you want to do that anyway. Turst me, I almost make a living doing this sort of stuff.

*Quietly agrees.... buying a new 'puter is pricey, and rather drastic, when there are ways to fix issues the majority of the time...*

Personally speaking i would advise against upgrading to Windows 7 just yet.. mainly as hardly anyone is going to be using it just yet it's going to be very "buggy" & not many people will know what to do with the bugs so there will be hardly any support - unlike with XP/vista where there are tons of support site's & fixes to download.

Basically the only people who want to upgrade will be people who want to show off & people who have to be the ones to get something 1st.. knowing Microsoft, a bad idea because they have a bad habit of releasing software before it's 100% ready. I remember when XP 1st came out, it got a right slagging off & in the 1st 12 months of it being on the market, nobody got on with it, but given time & a few error fixes & clever people pointing out the faults & it became probably the best OS Microsfot have ever made & one that Microsoft are struggling to get people to switch from. But then the same story can be said of every OS Microsoft created going back to MSDOS & through all the Windows releases.

Leave it 12 months then consider a change to Windows 7 when the web & the Microsoft website is filled full of information on how to correct faults without resorting to formatting the entire system, or change over once there is a Service pack release & a lot of the bugs have been ironed out. That's my advice & what i'll be doing, but for now i'm happy to stick with XP - if it's not broke, why fix it!

my 'puter is going on 6 years old now and needs replacing . will be a good one for my daughter to play her games and such on ,my disc drive died (again) so i cant put any of my pictures onto discs, and the monitor throws off more heat than my oven , so with a new cheap monitor , its perferct for her to use and abuse .

i rather just start over witha whole new updated 'puter. is all im saying .

i just dont want to loose any thing if i screw something up.
