Hey everybody,
I just got two bootlegs, and I have a question about a few people who appear in them.

On "Otis, Onions, and the Blues" (Booker T and the MG's, featuring Blues Bros. and Sam Moore, Montreux, 1988) a girl sings "Try a Little Tenderness". Steve Cropper only says her first name (Nikki or Mickey, something like that). Does anyone have any clue who this is?

Also, on The Blues Brothers Band, Montreux 1992 "Blues for You", a harmonica player plays the part for 'Can't Play the Blues In an Air Conditioned Room'. I'm not sure if it's "The Honeydripper" or not, as Larry Thurston doesn't say his name. Any clues?

I don't think The Honeydripper was involved back then.
I think this was even before Tommy Pipes was in the band. If it wasn't Dan Aykroyd, I have no idea who it could have been.
It should be essentially the same band as 'Red, White & Blues'

I got the same CD. It's Larry "T" Thurston and Eddie Floyd. The introduction of the band sounds like Steve Cropper.

Flashcomix, since you have that CD, take a listen to the "Can't Play the Blues in an Air Conditioned Room" You can hear the harmonica at the begining the best, then Larry Thurston says something like "Hold on son, they've got it", there at the begining. Hear the harmonica? Also, yes, it is the same band as on "Red, White and Blues". Eddie Floyd even intros "Big Bird" as 'a song off of the new album..... Red, White and Blues" Larry Thurston also does an excellent rendition of 'B Movie' on here also.

About the "Otis, Onions and the Blues" for anyone that's interested, the female vocalist that sang "Try a Little Tenderness" is Mickey Howard. She was also at the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary show. Rufus Thomas does "Walkin' the Dog" on that one, and Sam Moore round out the list of vocalists on this one. Great album!

Well, maybe someone from the horns is playing the harmonica. I just don't know but I don't think that Dan Aykroyd is on this CD.
Where can I get this "Otis, Onions and the Blues"-CD? Is it out of print?
Do you konw the "Great Outdoors"-Soundtrack? It's with Aykroyd performing as "The Elwood Blues Revue" with Wilson Pickett, Sam Moore and Tom Scott.

I happened to get the "Otis, Onions, and the Blues" CD in a trade last week. It's listed as a 'Booker T and the MG's' CD, and is pretty common in trades. Just check on Google or Yahoo for some trade lists. I have no idea where to get it. As for the 'Great Outdoors' soundtrack, you can check eBay for that one- that's where I happened to get mine. OK CD, which in my opinion is only half good. The two 'Land of 1000 Dances' are great on there, 'Dragboat' is a great instrumental, and the mix 'Big Bear' is funny with lines from the movie in there.

Okay everybody this thread is a little older now. I think we started it in 2004. It was also the first thread I posted on :P

And now 2 year's later I found out who played the harmonica on "Blues for you" and "Live in Montreaux".
It's Claude Nobs, the founder of the Montreaux Jazzfestival. He sometimes plays harmonica along with some of the acts.
You can see him stand in in the back on the "Live in Montreaux"-video while they are doing "Sweet home chicago". "Blues for you" was also recorded at the Montreaux Jazzfestival, so we can guess that it's him again.
For more infos on the man:

A lost bandmember :D

I knew Claude had joined the band a few times, I knew he was on the Live in Montreux album (I have the VHS video of the same gig, you can see him).

I also have Parliament/Funkadelic Live in Montreux, Claude is the old guy in the hawaiian shirt and the fishing hat who comes onto the stage and plays harp at the end :P
