Here is Dan and James Belushi and lets face it if this was a tribute act we would all say it was very poor....

Hey, come on, lay off man.

Yeah, we know Belushi-San and Mr. Aykroyd aren't exactly spring chickens anymore, but give 'em a little respect -- without Danny, there wouldn't be any Blues Brothers.

Oh, and when I thought the fandom was free from self-haters...

ETA: Also, moving to the actual band thread since it is NOT, in fact, a tribute act.

Actually, "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" is one of the songs I like from The Blues Bros. with The Sacred Hearts Band. Other classic BB songs played by that band don´t sound right compared with the energy of The Blues Brothers Band, but "Everybody" doesn´t sound bad.

I do have to agree with ChAnOoD on that last one, the energy is missing now-a-days.

I was'nt having ago i just think Dan can sing alot better when you listen to some of the albums and well his harp playing on the soundtrack album was great but these days its like he cant be bothered and that is whats upsetting. Even his vocals on the have love will travel album is great. Just this footage is terrible it dont matter if he's put weight on at all as he IS ELWOOD and none of us lot will ever match up to him as were only copies if you will...

Trust me im a total Dan Aykroyd fan..

Bear in mind, it was the end of a concert, though. Maybe he was just tired?

I'll also point out it's a song he probably sings a lot -- and I know from experience that the more you sing something, the more it loses its meaning. Could be that's simply what happened here.

I doubt it i sing them songs all the time in our show and i never get tired of doing them really. But i think its the band that lets them down they no way near match the original band. Its the sacred hearts band and ive never thought they could hack it...

a little.. if you look at the other video of that concert when they perform Soul man - YouTube - Blues Brothers Feb 7 2009 054, the dance moves have become more of a foot shuffling & a slow stomp rather than Dan leaping around like a lunatic when he did it back on the original Saturday Night live performance.. (YouTube - Blues Brothers "Soul Man" Live - enjoy it before YT pulls it again) but don't forget that Saturday night live performance was over 30 years ago now (bet you feel old) & Elwood is in his 50's as opposed to his 20's so age has a lot to do with it... as well as the fact he looks like he's eaten a few too many pies!

I do agree with Mr LPool's reply though, compared to the live albums we heard in the past from the Dan/John B days, this one does sound a bit like they just couldn't be bothered.

Right! The original Blues Brother Band is band full of music-legends long before Dan and John hired them. They were their heros and they were trying to keep up with them.
With a showtune-studioband like the Sacred Hearts this is not happening.

Listen to the solos the SH play. They are always the same. Now did you here Matt Murphy play a solo twice. Well, not me!
The members of the BBBand invented that music. It's what they were born for. The SC are just posing.

For some strange reasons the Sacred Hearts sound great, when they perfom with Taj Mahal as the Phantom Blues Band.

I understand the difference in years Wolfie, and yes, things do get tiring after several years also. But even so, there just seems to be enthusiasm missing often times, thats all. I dont mean to sound harsh, but it's just something I've noticed when watching recordings of the concerts. Listening to the old albums and watching the concerts it seems that the louder the crow screams the more entergetic they play, sing, and dance, which of course makes the crowd go even crazier. But the SH band doesnt seem to put as much into it, but maybe the blues just isnt the style they like to play the most is all it is. Or like it has been suggested, maybe they just got tired of playing the same songs several times over.

Ok, thus ends my excedingly long post.

I wouldn't say that it's lost it's meaning. Aykroyd acts just as interested in the music as he did back in the day, if not more now actually! I mean, he's still the host of the HOB Radio Hour and pushes the oldies in Blues and Rock, and all of the young acts just as well, many of which get their first playing on the Radio Hour! And Aykroyd does have some issues with his knee (the left one I believe) and he wears a brace to every show! Also, all of you tribute act Elwoods out there (such as myself) think that you'll be moving around like SNL Elwood at Aykroyd's age? (Elwood's feel free to answer, but I'm sure I know mostly what you will all say) And Jim and Dan are pumped still, I mean, check out the footage of the intro and Sweet Home Chicago from the begining of that same show! Jim does the backflip, and then does a drop kick before the last verse of the song! It's not what it was, but just as any band, the act does change with time

there is a good point here that i think everyone has missed.. it's often said that when it comes to live operatic performances & the like, the singer is only ever as good as their orchestra, in the same sence a blues singer is only as good as his backing band/track - in fact that same scenario applies to all. if the back line is bad, the whole act is bad, no matter how good the vocals are or how much effort the frontman is putting in!

They are really good. The mix between "Everybody needs somebody to love" and "turn on your lovelight"... They should do a New Live Album
