Why are the Blues Brothers in this top-10? They performed concerts, they released albums/cd's ... they clearly existed. Errrrr ... am I missing something here?

I guess because the front men are fictional characters, and their "Behind the Music" story is already on film. :)

According to the article, this is why:

"served as alter egos."

Both the Blues Brothers and Spinal Tap are mock bands - created for theatrics first. (We can debate whether the BBs were formed for that reason, but they were a creation for SNL and then the movie.)

We are just lucky that they could sing in reality...

I wonder where Gorillaz would fit into this categorization?

I like Dr. Teeth, too!

Not as much as Spinal Tap...

Hey. This is starting to sound like a physical.

Glad to see the Rutles and Spinal Tap on that list! Ron Nasty and the rest of the band rules! ;)

But... Where are the Chano Brothers in this list? :P

in much the same way as Spinal Tap & the commitments who are also on the list??

I suppose you could also include Tenacious D to that list.

Realisitically though you could argue they started out as a fake band, but then made stardom & just so happened to release the most popular Blues album of all time.

talking of which, where's Chef from South Park? why isn't he on the list? Ok technoically he isn't a "band" but a Solo artist, but he was a ficticious musical act that never existed.

if you ever see his "Behind the music" (although a spoof called "Behind the Menu") it tells the extended story of why "Chef Aid" was organised & how he used to tour the country with up & coming rock bands cooking Salisbury steak & potatoes for the likes of Meat Loaf & the Clash as well as being the inspuration for naming bands & giving them their trademark gimmicks!

The Commitments?? They released albums? Two of the cast members tour around with a band, but I wouldn't put The Commitments in the same sentence as The Blues Brothers. DANG, I just did. d'oh

Oh, man... I LOVE the Commitments! I thought that movie was funny as all get out...

Colm Meany with his pictures of the Pope and Elvis on the wall had me in stitches...

It was a funny movie, but I don't think they ever released an album, unless you count the soundtrack I guess? They belong in this top 10 I figure. I'd take the Blues Brothers and Spinal Tap off this list, they both existed. Maybe add Josie and the Pussycats. :o

they were good, but i still say that movie was a pathetic attempt to re-create the beatles. no one will ever re-create the beatles in movies.
