O.k. for old people like me, every time I see the Geico commercial:

It makes me smile because I purchased the 45 of this song when it first came out back in 1984.

"Maxwell" was actually the son of Motown record founder Berry Gordy Jr. and with a keen ear, you will hear Michael Jackson singing background vocals (actually it's easy to hear, LOL).

Watch Maxwell: "Somebody's Watching Me" on YouTube!
One scary soul band as mean and righteous as a fist.

I remember when it came out that nobody cared about Rockwell, they just waited for Michael Jackson's chorus..

It's interesting that so many old songs that were long forgotten become popular (or at least thrust into popular culture again) through advertisements.

When a "classic" song, however, is used for ads, people cry foul. (I am thinking of all those Beatles and Rolling Stones songs that were used to push shoes and whatnot...)

And I think the same holds true today, LOL.

It's generational marketing strategy...

I totally agree. Junk songs that had a hook are fondly remembered when they are reintroduced to the people but a classic? Ooooh, then it's a total sell out by that band.
