I'm not sure how others feel, but I've always thought that the frames on Elwood's sunglasses look very square.

The "Wayfarer II" is a good choice because of the larger frames/ lenses, but like the standard Wayfarers, the frames (specifically the bottom edge) are rounded whereas Elwood's look flat.

I believe it has pretty much been determined that his glasses were imitations and not real Ray-Ban Wayfarers.

Because of all of this, I haven't yet committed to buying a pair of Wafarer II's, and have kept a lookout for imitations that are more square.

Just recently came across these:

Not 100%, but IMO, are the closest that I have been able to find, to date.

I am in the process of asking the seller if they have any more, and if not, what brand they are and/ or where to find them.

What is your opinion?
Has anyone found glasses that are a closer match?

Wow...those do look like the ones you see in the end concert scenes especially! If you find out what they're called, let me know! Or let me know who the seller is! Those are pretty cool! Thanks!!

Those are the ones that I had 'script lenses put in at one point....
They were great, until the frames snapped....on both pairs I had bought.

Oh,I forgot; There's some kind of clear-coat on the frames which gives them a high gloss, and eventually it'll start to fade unevenly (It got to the point where the arms looked like the color didn't match the rest of the frame),and possibly crack.
I got everything I need....almost...

The web site says that in the original movie Elwood wears Bay Ban model 5022, but a few years back I won some Blues Brothers movie memorabilia that was a raffle prize at my kids' daycare fundraiser.

Included was a signed poster and a pair of prescription Ray Ban sunglasses (model # B+L 5024). The glasses came in a soft Ray Ban case autographed: Dan Aykroyd + Elwood.

I recently took out Elwood's lenses and put in my own prescription. How much closer can you get?

Nick - sounds like a great set of shades...especially with the autograph and all! I recently watched what I believe was the first appearance of the "Blues Brothers" on Saturday Night Live. (The first one where they wore the suits/hats/glasses anyway). Carrie Fisher was the host. It looked like Dan Aykroyd was wearing regular wayfarers, but Belushi was wearing some other sort of glasses. They had kind of rounded frames. They were cool, of course, but didn't appear to be any sort of Ray Ban wayfarers. I guess at that early stage, the "definitive" look hadn't been completely established yet. It was interesting.

TK826 - Wow! Very nice shades. I, too, noticed Elwood's glasses in the first movie were very square. Many have tried to find the exact style (despite everyone saying they are Wayfarer II 5022's, every picture I've found of these glasses does not look like the ones he wears in the movie.) but have been unsuccessful.

HOWEVER, there is a new model of Wayfarers released in the last year or so by Ray-ban: Square Wayfarers (RB2151). I haven't seen them yet in stores except for one pair at Lenscrafters (and I snatched them up as I've been looking for the squared look myself). Again, not exactly what he was wearing, but much closer than anything else I've seen. Here are pics of the originals and the squares so you can see the difference.

Jake wore the 5022's. According to the missing person report anyway. :)

The square ones are definitely nice. Price range seems to be $100 - $140 or so.

As far as finding a pair of knock-offs with vertical ornaments, I've only seen one brand and they're $4 bucks ...

So, TK826, I know you posted this a while ago, but did you ever find out the brand and the model name? I've been looking, and these may not be exactly Elwood's shades, but they look pretty damn cool on the mannequin anyway. More than the Wayfarers. I would love to have a pair of these!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THESE GLASSES ARE CALLED OR WHERE TO GET THEM??

If you look close in the first movie Elwoods sunglasses are square yes, but also, those silver lines at the corner of the frames are vertical instead of horizontal like all wayfarers. i have been looking for elwoods sunglasses for years and it only complicates the situation more when in the second movie he is wearing a new pair of 5022's instead of his original leading many to think he always wore them. its said that during filming Dan and John would lose or give away their sunglasses all the time so they would use what they had on hand. i recently came across an ad on the back of the recent entertainment weekly magazine for the 2011 golden globes with ricky gervais and i was shocked to see somewhat similar sunglasses to elwoods heres a pic the ad if anyone wants to google it is "Prepare for global warming." 2011 Golden Globe Awards hosted by Ricky Gervais. If anyone can recognize these sunglasses id be oh so appreciative! i will say i dont think they are ray bans unfortunately even in the film. just click to enlarge, also a great view of the vertical lines on elwoods glasses to prove my point.

Hey maybe Elwood actually had prescription sunglasses? I tried that tack once getting prescription sunglasses and I wound up breaking them. They were too darned expensive to break so I wound up getting those goofy looking wrap around sunglasses. They may look goofy but they keep the sun out and they are good for night driving as well (they're the amber colored ones). Night driving any more really screws with my vision. When cars are coming towards me it almost blinds me. I try not to drive much at night any more. It's been an experience driving big UHaul's lately! I wonder why the BB never pinched a UHaul or similar one from like Budget or Penske to transport the band to their gigs? If we can solve the great sunglass mystery/debate, let me know. I wouldn't mind getting a pair of those Ray Bans and converting them to prescription sunglasses. No matter what they try to tell you about those lenses that change colors in bright sunlight, they suck. They change yes but it takes them awhile then if you go inside, you better be careful where you walk because they're too dark for inside. I never could understand how they could wear those things all the time without bumping into stuff. Night driving I could understand why they wore them LOL! ;)

If I remember correctly, I read something somewhere that said DA used to wear glasses. The only time I ever saw him wear glasses is as Fred Garvin Male Prostitute and Elwood Blues.
