Dearly beloved and departed, we are gathered here on June 3, 2009 to say our final goodbyes to Koko Taylor. She passed on today in Chicago due to recent complications in surgery to treat her gastrointestinal bleeding. She was the daughter of a sharecropper who received her big break in '62 when she was discovered by Willie Dixon who gave her a recording contract with Chess. Koko Taylor's main hit was Wang Dang Doodle which sold a million copies. She was the Queen of Blues whose voice could be heard from New York to Lower Wacker Drive and even miles on. We shall never forget Koko Taylor. May she rest in peace with other great blues artists such as Elmoore James, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, and of course, Joliet Jake Blues aka John Belushi.

A true legend.

I used to go to her night club quite frequently, when it still existed on Rush St.

I also had the news from the Bluesmobile.com.

She was my model as a blues female singer.

I feel like a motherless child now. *sniff*

RIP Koko.

Looks like we're in for another series of famous people gone away - just learned that David Carradine from Kung Fu fame has died too... What a wang dang doodle to take place in heaven now !

My prefered tune from Koko was Insane Asylum in duet with Willie Dixon - now they are both together in heaven to sing all these great songs.

I just heard this one on the radio an hour ago. These things usually come in threes and fours...

What a drag. R.I.P. Koko. Why do we keep losing the legends at the wrong time??

Edit - looked at the date. I thought it was recent. Sorry. But still, it's a sad loss.
