I wasn't exactly sure where to place this thread - theres a little bit of everything in it.

So browsing youtube yesterday, I located this absolutely bizarre video

YouTube - The Elwood Blues Review ft. Wilson Pickett/Land of 1000 Dances

It has Dan Aykroyd and John Candy in character from the 1988 movie Great Outdoors dancing to Wilson Pickett, who is dressed as a blues brothers, performing Land of 1000 Dances. Halfway through, Aykroyd appears as Elwood, followed by a slew of femme Blues Brothers who do a little dance.

I am overall confused, any have any clue why this was made? I've never seen Great Outdoors all the way through, so maybe someone who has can identify it better?

Wow. This is a crazy find!

I know at the end of The Great Outdoors, there's the raucous and hilarious dance to The Land of 1000 Dances you see in this video where Candy and Aykroyd are their characters from the movie. I wonder if they had Dan release this with Pickett as a promotional music video for the film? (Sort of like Dragnet's "City of Crime" rap video?) It's only a guess.

This is great. However, if Elwood woke me up from a dead sleep as a child, I don't know whether I'd of screamed or jumped him... (Also, it bothers me that he's wearing a striped tie.)

I love this video, though. Thanks for it!

Ah!! Yeah, me too. Just another thing to add to the list of things that make this video confusing.

Good guess about the promotional video though, seems totally plausible!

The promo video idea sounds right - seeing WP dressed like a Blues Brother is a little unusual, LOL.

I do recall this video was played regularly on MTV back when "Great Outdoors" came out, as a cross-promotion for the film. This was back when MTV was pretty much only music videos of course!

Good lord that was a long time ago. There is a whole generation of kids that have no idea what MTV "used" to be.

Man it was great back then...........
