Dan once stated in an interview exactly who inspired the Blues Brothers LOOK.
I can't remember exactly who. It's right on the tip of my tongue ... HELP!!!!!!!
An old Motown group I think.:BB::BB:

I recall he would frequently refer to an old John Lee Hooker album cover photo, along with a "men-in-black" theme.

I had to laugh the other night... watching a TV show that featured clips of old music shows (Later... with Jools Holland on BBC4) - they did a special on Blues music mainly featuring acts & clips from the pre-Blues Brothers era - BBC4 have been doing a bit of a feature on Blues music, There i was watching the show when one of my step-daughters pipes up "why are they dressed like the Blues Brothers??" because some of the performers were wearing a black suit, hat & dark glasses!

one of the costume designers on the special features said she and dan aykroyd talked about how they dressed like the CIA to trick the feds or something like that
Dan Aykroyd is underrated and that pisses me off

to be fair a lot of the reasons why the "blues brothers costume" (i'll call it that because it's what we know it as) came about was because in the 50's & 60's, popular music was still in it's infancy so there were not many things like security guards to escort the band & back stage entrances to music venues etc like we get today & the costume was more or less a disguise so the performers could slip out the front door without being mobbed by the fans & autograph hunters.
