Because I have been looking for a "Best of S&D" 8-Track for several years, with little luck, I have decided that I would just make my own.

First up.. recreating the album label, completly from scratch.

Here is a "work in progress" screen cap, of where I am right now:

Damn, that looks fab!
One scary soul band as mean and righteous as a fist.

Thanks for the good words.

I'm just about finished with the front.
I just need to find a decent copy of the center photo.

Next up... the back label.
Seems easy enough, but setting all of the words at their proper size
and spacing, will take a while (lots of zoomed-in pixel counting).

When finished, the plan is to buy a blank 8-track tape and recorder, then
transfer the music onto it, from the CD.

That might be a task in itself as I will have to figure out how to properly space the music so that the same songs fall into the same tape tracks as the original.

If you can do that, TK, you are truly a genius!:P

Almost there.

A big thanks goes out to ChiTownJohn for sending me a photo of the track listing.

As you may have seen in another thread he posted a photo of the tape he found.
You'll notice that his tape consists only of a simple black and white decal, listing the songs.
The artwork, on his original, was located on the tape cardboard sleeve.

I am, on the other hand, creating a full album cover decal as I felt it would be a little more exciting visually.

I've also studied about 100 Atlantic 8-track tapes and most of them are in the layout style I am trying to create, although the originals have a lot more black on the top and sides of the album art.
(smaller overall image)

The next Atlantic style layout consists of a big album cover decal... with nothing else.
(sometimes there is a second decal, on the back of the tape, with the song listings)

It would appear that the least used "Atlantic" style is in fact what ChiTown has.
(A decal of just the songs.. and nothing else)

This style might have been used, on his tape, because the song listings are loooong.
It reads like a book, compared to most of the other 8-tracks I have studied.

To keep everything on the front of the tape, I may have to shrink down my art cover, to provide more black space area, for the track listings.

We'll see what happens.

Until then, here is the latest image...

( All of it done completly from scratch, with the exception of the center photo which I enlarged and cleaned up in Photoshop)

Edit:
The blue guidelines are not on the image.
They are photoshop guidelines, to help align the text.

Also.. it would appear that file sizes, on uploaded photos, are knocked down.
Both images have a blurryness that really isn't there.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've looked for that tape, from time to time, on the Bay.
You can find it pretty regularly, if you keep an open eye.

Sometimes they show up in mint, still shrink-wraped condition.
Although, pristine examples run about 5 times that price.

If anyone is wondering...

I had some decals made and I am waiting for a couple blank 8-tracks to arrive.

If the final piece looks as good as I am hoping, I'll post the image and a couple photos for everyone.

Stay tuned...

I hate to say that, but shouldn't "Soothe me" be followed by "Hold on I'm coming"?

The song listings are legit.

(As mentioned above) the song listing was provided by ChiTownJohn:
http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum/bluesmobiles/3780-latest-exciting-addition-my-bluesmobile.html

Besides the white tape I found (also mentioned above), his is the only other example of a
"Best of Sam and Dave" label that I have seen.

Here below is the front and back, of the white tape:
Posted Image

Posted Image

Both tapes have a song that repeats itself.
In this case it is "Hold On", I'm Comin'."

In neither case does "Hold On" follow "Soothe me".

Also worth mentioning is that the album version is different than both tapes.
It has "Hold On" as #1.. and "Soothe Me" as #6.
(again, not back to back)

* Although the white tape also has the songs listed as #1 & #6, the other songs are in a different order than the album version.
