That's a nice Monaco , but its not a royal . It's strange it has reverse lights in the fuel door and the 6 bulb tail lights . Usually it would be a non pillar car . Also no horn ring .

From the ad:

For you derby guys, this would make a great road car to cruise to shows

I don't think anyone's going to turn it into a derby car;at least I hope not
I got everything I need....almost...

It's WAY too nice to turn into a derby car. Why do these demented sellers even mention the "D" word with these great cars?

Did the '74 Monaco and the '74 Monaco Brougham have different taillights?

I hope it does not become a derby car as well.
But, just that the seller chose the derby as his target consumer, is depressing.

The tail lights...

The Brougham model did come with the "fancier" tail lights.

But, that car (as mentioned above) appears to be a rarity.

In my years of searching, I've collected quite a few Monaco photos.

I have several photos of the 74' Brougham, with the alternate lights, including the center fuel door-reverse lights.

But... all of them are hard tops.

I also have photos of 75' Brougham, B post sedans, and although they too have the upgraded tail lights, none of them have the center reverse lights.
(They instead have a white center square, in each tail light)

This green machine is sort of an anomaly, as all of the elements come together, on a 74' sedan.

The only such example I think I've ever seen.

I do have this photo..

It does show the Brougham Sedan as part of the 1974 lineup,
but no images of the rear.

I'm now on a search for a second example, to confirm that the lights were the same, on all of them.

Thanks for that stuff, tk! I think Mr Mercer is absolutely correct. It should be a non pillar car.

Here's a pic and a description from bluesmobile.net to back it up ...

This appears to be a 1974 Dodge Monaco Brougham 4-Door Hardtop (no B-Pillar). This luxo-wagon is distinguished by it's large, curved rear window and taillights with the Dodge emblem.

*edit* Actually, this must be a 1974 Brougham Sedan from your pic, tk. Different rear windows for the Brougham hardtop and the Brougham sedan?

It just seems odd that its a sedan with those taillights and body side mouldings . I was parked next to a 74 royal at moparfest and it was the same but a hardtop with that 74ish Impala back window . That was the first time I noticed that rear glass .

Hey Dudes,

Don’t have time to check all threads tonight, but thought I would put my 2 cents in. Below you will find the production figures for 74 Dodge Monaco’s. And yes they did make sedan Broughams, “see pic below” I know I have owned 2.

I have also and still do own a hdtp Brougham my first 74. See pic below before I painted it. I have also seen Broughams without the fancy tail lamps. Chrysler did a lot of things when they would run short on parts in those days, also there was many a number of ways to order the cars.

That of course was the first thing I changed in 1989 when I bought my brougham, the tail lamps and fuel door. Found them at a local salvage yard in Monticello IN.

Also there were no Royals in 74, that started in 75.

Well I would like to stay and post but have to go. Will talk to you guys later. Hey Rob give me a whistle whenever your ready to come down buddy. Anytime is fine, everything is safe until you get here.

Take care,
Huey

Total Production figures for 1974 Dodge Monaco all models includes police, taxi, and export figures

DM41 sedan 4dr 9,101
DH41 Custom Sedan 4dr 12,655
DP41 Brougham Sedan 4dr 3,954
DM23 hdtp coupe 3,347
DH23 Custom hdtp coupe 6,649
DP23 Brougham hdtp coupe 4,863
DH43 Custom hdtp 4dr 10,585
DP43 Brougham hdtp 4dr 5,649
DM45 Wagon 4dr 2S 1,583
DH45 Custom Wagon 4dr 2S 1,253
DH46 Custom Wagon 4dr 3S 3,272
DP45 Brougham Wagon 4dr 2S 1,042
DP46 Brougham Wagon 4dr 3S 2,718

D=Dodge
Price Class M=Medium H=High P=Premium

With most cars having a 10% survival rate, and the Monaco is probably less, there are not that many left. The good thing to remember though is that the front clip from any 74 model will work on 75-77’

The writing on the second pic was from a joke played on my brother. Long story.....

I believe all hard tops (Brougham or not) had the rounded corners.
Like the missing B pillar, it was designed to replicate a convertible.

I am the owner of her (the one up for auction on ebay). It is a Brougham Sedan based on the Identification on the title (DP41).

Sorry about the "demented seller" comment. :o lol. It's just seeing the word "derby" in conjunction with these cars ...

It's a great car and your auction is doing well.
$1,136.11 with over 4 days to go.

Thanks.

Yay, Shotgun & I scored this one! Hopefully will get the paperwork sorted and go pick her up next weekend, it looks to be a bit over 5 hours from me here.

Here she is now:

And thanks to many torturous hours (actually, about 3 minutes with MS Paint!) the hoped-for result:

Posted Image

It'll be a slow process though. Ultimately she's gonna end up with Shotgun, and we won't have the cash or resources to start the conversion for a while. But she's pretty as she is, at least! With luck we'll get her started this summer but depending on a few factors it may be a while longer. At least the timing on this one was good, when I could actually put some money together this week to buy her (and as often happens the sale price was within $50 of what I'd considered my top possible bid going in.)

Yes, congratulations, Bismo! I was seriously thinking about bidding on that car; it's only about 2 1/2 hours from me. In the end the prospect of getting rid of the vinyl top and the trim scared me off. (The bidding went over my max, anyway.) Glad to see that somebody on here got it, and glad to hear you'll take your time with the Bluesmobile conversion; that's the way to do it. Be sure to keep us updated once you start... and when it's done, get some pictures with your BB2K Bluesmobile replica! :BB:

Thanks, folks. Shotgun's pulled vinyl roofs twice before with good luck (once on our first Monaco, once on his current Fury). I'll be leaving a lot of the body work to him ('m a wheelman but not much of a motorhead), I'll probably help with the paint though and the stereo.

Shotgun is hoping to move back up to New England with me, so we'll likely wait until we're reunited to get seriously to work on this.

Will think of you as we pass through NY to pick her up, Dan, thanks for the good thoughts!
