Ever given up an addiction?

If so, what was it?
How hard was it to do, and how did you go about it?
Here's my own story:
I gave up coffee a few months ago, I went cold turkey after drinking it multiple times a day for a long time.
Instead of a coffee for breakfast I had orange juice. By lunchtime I had a terrible headache and I felt this overwhelming sense of frustration. For the rest of the week I had headaches, muscle pains and bad moods.
I was used to the routine of having a hot drink when I come home after work, so instead I started drinking tea (for the first time in about 15 years!).
It took about a month in total, but by the end I didn't crave coffee at all!
Now I still drink tea, and I'm only having 3-4 cups of coffee a month, compared to 3-5 a day!

That is caffeine withdrawl.
I got it too, when I cut my Coca-Cola consumption way down.
I have also quit smoking......... Many times.

It's definitely not the most pleasant feeling in the world is it!
I'm sure nicotine withdrawal is even worse, where I work (a call centre) a lot of people come out as smokers after previously giving up. Either that or they end up overweight. Usually both, now that I think about it.

Not having fast/any 'net access or the good computer at home for the last six months has helped. I can find other things to do that don't involve the computer. I've started recycling, for one.

I constantly had to have a new guitar or a new piece of equipment. The economy took care of that addiction
...however, I traded it for the one Takk just mentioned.

At work we only have two computers with internet access (it's locked out on all the others), and there's almost always a line of people who rush over there in their lunchbreaks to check their MySpace/Facebook pages. You can see them getting very stressed out when they can't get on!

now if i could only remember the late 70's to late 1989
drugs , been 25 years for that . it was easy just quit hanging around with the people i ran with . most now are still into it , in jail , or taking the big dirt nap .
smoking , my right arm was in a cast from shoulder to wrist , and i could not do it with my left , kept flipping the smoke across the room . told my self i go back after the cast came off , but never did . that was a few months after i quit drinking .
my latest,, 2liters of diet coke .
i could drink at least 2 to 3 a day !!!
i found out all i was doing was wasting my money , drank so much that i didnt even get a caffine buzz anymore . could not handle regular soda , caffine plus sugar , not a good combo for me , i like to sleep at least 4 hours a night .
so now its water , almost up to 2 2liters a day now , i know water is good for you but that much ???
so i dont drink , i dont smoke , i dont do drugs ,
i lead a very boring life , but at least i remember it now .

Hyuk.
Reminds me of an episode of M*A*S*H. Quoting loosely ...
Col. Potter: Have a cigar, Radar.
Radar: No thank you, sir. I hear smoking is addictive.
Col. Potter: Horse hockey! I've smoked three cigars a day, every day for the last 40 years ... and I'm not addicted!
lol
