I did. It was truly a phenonenal experience seeing it on the big screen for the first time and seeing all the familiar Chicago locations. I saw it again a couple of years later also on the big screen. After that, the movie was on cable tv and then VHS and DVD. The DVD version is the best!!
Who saw the movie on Opening night in 1980?

I didn't see it opening night, but I had my mother take me to see it (not yet old enough for rated "R" films) during its initial run. We went to the late Golf Mill Theaters in Niles.
I remember fondly the scene wherein Frank Oz gives Jake his property back, and says, "one prophylactic .....and one soiled." I immediately turned to my mom and asked loudly, "what's a prophylactic?" Everyone began to "hush" me and I couldn't figure out why. My brother finally elbowed me, and whispered, "it's a rubber, you asshole." I turned to my mom and asked, "mom, what's a rubber?" She said she would have to tell me later.
The Blues Brothers was also the very first film my family ever rented. There was a record store near my house which, to my knowledge, was the very first place in the area to rent videos. When the Blues Brothers came out in '81 or so, it was on two separate tapes for some reason. I rented it a ton of times.
