According to the latest Rolling Stone poll.

Quote

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - She's already the Queen of Soul, but now Aretha Franklin has been named the greatest singer of the rock era in a poll conducted by Rolling Stone magazine.

She's in some good company.

Quote

Franklin, 66, came in ahead of Ray Charles at No. 2, Elvis Presley at No. 3, Sam Cooke at No. 4 and John Lennon at No. 5, according to the magazine's survey of 179 musicians, producers, Rolling Stone editors, and other music-industry insiders.

Whenever I hear or see Aretha's name anywhere,I'm always reminded of the same thing:When she went into the studio to record the song "Respect" she had "a bad cold".....

I'll let that soak in for just a moment....

She cut that vocal with a @#%^$&* COLD!?!?!

Still blows me away.....
I got everything I need....almost...

Ok, this might sound strange to you, but in fact one can sing better with a cold. A lot of vocal-teachers will tell you. Don't know why but in fact I experienced it myself.

No,it doesn't sound strange to me at all.I once had a cold so bad I could've gotten work filling in for Johnny Cash (:BB: ),so I just put on ....At Folsom Prison and At San Quentin, and had a good old time.

I thought it was just my imagination (running away with me http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif);I didn't know it was based in fact.

Still blows me away,though......

The woman is awesome but wait I had no idea she had a "bad cold" upon singing Respect....that's just awesome.

In fact, she sang Respect and Chain of Fools on the last season of Dancing with the Stars 2008.
