Last year I started a conversation about a bluesmobile gathering or other type of event that fans of the movies would enjoy. I still would like to see this event or events happen. I hope that sometime this summer I can organize one in Virginia. I own Bluesmobile #58 from the BB 2000 movie and I would like to get the ball rolling with any kind of bluesmobile owner or band that would like to join in. Please give some input or ideas so maybe we can pull it off. I have a location that will be suitable ,so is there any interest? It would be great if there some sponsors would jump in!

Jake from NH here.. Sure, I could go to VA. I have family in Great Falls they would love to see the car finished. I had stopped by the house when I was driving the old girl up from Georgia. Funninest thing, I pull up to a 2 million dollar house in a POS faded green Plymouth fury with no hubcaps instant call to security company....

Glad to hear your response, I hope to do the event in July or August. It will take place about an hour drive from Va. Beach Va. The show could include antique emergency vehicles and cars plus the bluesmobile reunion. We will have food and music.:P How about diecast car swap or sales? Any dealers out there?

Oh dear!!! We had quite the ball rolling didn't we? With gas going up to $4.00 a gallon and #57 getting about 15 mpg I dunno...

It might be cheaper to ship the car there!!!!:P

It would be cool though to drive up with Huey and his #43 as well.
At least there would be three of us from BB2K...

It may be hard to justify the travel costs , but it will be a rare event. Try for a sponsor maybe you could get some press for them on the journey. We have to start somewhere!:BB:

Why hasn't anyone thought to have a gathering of Bluesmobiles in Chicago? You could caravan to all the movie locations around the area that are still recognizable and then wrap up your whirlwind tour at the House of Blues downtown or that new blues bar in Mount Prospect.

You will notice I mentioned an event or events. We need to get organized and have events in different regions. Chicago would be great, and top them all!

When we picked up my sons BB2k blumo in N.C. and began driving it home to |Mississippi Ithought somthing must be wrong. As the gas gauge didnt work,we filled up and stopped again at 100 miles(or as close as we could get). It took about 4 gallons.Filled to overflow and did it again, same result.
This car is a true police cruiser with the 351 carburetted engine. As long as you stay at 70 mph it gets 25 mpg.
My son is now in his fourth week of USCG boot camp in |Cape May N.J. He will be training in VA. in july and august and Im sure hed like to see his car. Thanks 59 strat

I will soon start to put together the plans for the Virginia car show and reunion. I will be talking to local car clubs and ask for their help and participation. I have a nice location with indoor use if rain is a problem. I hope to have a band we would all like to hear participate. Anybody interested? If any bluesmobile owners think they may be interested, please let me know if there are any dates that are better than others. I am talking some Sat. in June, July or Aug. It will be hard to narrow down the date to make it possible for everyone, but we may get lucky with some. I hope to make this an interesting time for all involved and and benefit a charity.

How about a tribute band from these forums? I would think at least one would be planning to show up anyway.

That would ROCK, Scott!

Or even open mike Karaoke... for those of us not in bands to be absolutely silly and play along?

I would also love to see other events/activities going on. Any ideas? A look-alike or Costume contest? Best dancing? Funniest adaptation/BB variation? An Illinois Nazi dunking booth? (Get someone in costume, then sell tickets to Dunk a Nazi - $2 - for charity....) These kinds of things could be really funny, and if you can get people into it for more than just the Bluesmobiles, you may get a bigger crowd.

Another thing... the date would be crucial. My advice - choose the date, and do it quickly, and just run with it. Don't get wound up in back and forth "I can't make it that weekend" discussions. That will make it screech to a hault.

Or both a band and karaoke? Band would probably not want to play the entire day; give them boys a break.

I'm not crazy about the idea of a look-alike contest, because you either look sort of like Jake/Elwood or you don't. An ordinary costume contest is a little better because people have more control over that sort of thing. Dance contest could be another good one.

By funniest adaptation, do you mean that people would do a skit?

I like the Nazi dunking booth idea, but is there any risk of causing trouble with an actual Nazi party?

A concession stand of some sort would be a good idea too. Make sure there is Coke (especially if this service will be provided by a concession-type company). Fried chicken and dry white toast should be available, though not the only items on the menu.

Scott - we are thinking alike! Seriously, people, if you want lots of people to come, there should be other entertainment too! Fun stuff to do!

Scott said:

If that can be done, it would be a real riot! As long as no one threw tomatoes (or even toast) at me, I would even do Karaoke! LOL!

I look too much like Jake for my tastes...

I think this could be great! Five minute sketch - either from the movie, or something you put together!

Who's writing all this down, people..
(Oh, yeah, I am...)

You could also dunk the Rollers and the Cowboys. Dunk the SWAT team. Dunk your Parole Officer. Dunk your Crazy Ex-Girlfriend... so many options, here.

Anyway, who cares if you get the Nazi party upset...
One of my favorite scenes from the Movie - RAT RACE.

Jason: I can't believe it, Dad. You stole Adolf Hitler's Mercedes-Benz!!

Randy: Well, Hitler had it comin'. What goes around comes around.

Kim: Dad, they're gonna be pissed.

Randy: Eh, they're always pissed, Honey. They're Nazis. It's like it's their job.

Bluesmobile # 58 from BB 2000 will soon be on dislpay in Virginia at marketplace & events center that will be open soon. This will also be the location of the Bluesmobile reunion planned for July or August 2008. I would like input on how this reunion should be done. I expect to have music, food and cars. :BB:

In reference to the above, maybe, inspiration for organizing such an event could be taken from the Dukefest (the gathering of all Dukes Of Hazzard fans, with cars, shows, etc.) Just a modest suggestion.

hey Billwood,

We could have the tribute band that Judy Belushi Pisano and Dan Aykroyd endorse for this show, I know them personally, and I know Judy Belushi personally, and could ask them what they would charge. They just did a show in Miami Beach with my Bluesmobile last weekend and I am sure they would do the show if it fits in their time frame and budget. They have 9 p band and we would have to take accomodations for the band and them into consideration etc.

I can work with them on a price. Also I would be willing to bring my BB2K #43 from the movie and one of my 74 Monaco's and help out any other way I could. Just remember these guys do this for a living and are not going to do it for free. I will help any way I can to get this off the ground. It's just that there needs to be a budget, contributors $$$ and someone to control that budget and get things done. Let me know what you need. If this could benefit a charity that is dear to Mrs. Belushi's heart this would have a better chance of sucess. I am open for ideas to present to her.

Your friend in Blues,

Huey
