It's funny how they already knew the song and had movements rehearsed for it.

Discuss.

LOL! There are several possibilities.

1 - This wasn't the first time they played it. Maybe they secretly practiced it when they got really drunk sometimes.

2 - Maybe everyone was doing that wacky dance move back then. The 1980 version of the Macarena or something.

3 - They were probably so in tune with each other's thoughts, on a subconscious level, they just rolled with it.

4 - I imagine that artists can bounce these things off each other when they jam. I have been in situations where I got up and danced in synch with someone because it felt right... and it looked like we had practiced for ever. I would guess it was more like this.

:P

I've been thinking it's either 1 or 3. Like it's some sort of guilty pleasure song, or they just know each other really well, being brothers. My sister and I do that all the time, we just know what the other's going to do. haha.

I'm guessing they'd had to play it before in other similar, make-the-best-of-it experiences... remember, they've even been called upon, on occasion, to do a polka!

Don't forget the intro -- "a favorite of the horn section"!

And dang it, it's slowly occurred to me that I've had "Stand By Your Man" stuck in my head for the past hour thanks to this thread! Great scene in the movie but not my favorite tune... have to crank up some blues now I think!

That song gets stuck in my head so easily! I don't know why. Out of all the awesome songs in the movie...why that one? haha.

Obviously they have played it already. Dauber is right, about the intro. Not only the brothers knew the song, but the whole band too. Also, this was probably the most famous country song at that time, 'Stand By Your Man' was a hit back then - and still one of the best love songs ever. (In my humble opinion.)

That's funny because, as I remember, they don't play at all in that song. They just sing backup vocals, haha.

Well, one of the most famous, but yeah, it was huge back in the 60's. Those Rednecks at Bob's would have loved it.

Jake's comment is ironic. That's the favorite of the horn section just because they don't play. Well, that's my understanding.

Or maybe they love that song 'cause for once they can sing instead of blowing in their instruments.

I think they were able to have synchronized movements for the same reason patrons at the Soul Food Cafe could do choreographed moves when the cafe owner starts singing: it's a musical.;-)
