Just out of curiosity, what do you think they ended up spending their luckily-found gains on, knowing that they didn't spend a cent at the Country Bunker, and that Elwood only put a little if any of it into the Bluesmobile's gas (or they might have made it to the Palace Hotel Ballroom in time)?

Great question. Any of the following, I suppose.
  • booze
  • smokes
  • specialty movies at specialty book stores
  • white bread
  • watch repair? (debatable)
  • rope to tie the loud speaker to the top of the Bluesmobile
  • towel rental at the sauna
  • chicken and cokes
  • disco pants and hair cuts (also debatable)

I like how he charged Twiggy $94.00 dollars for a fillup in her Jag... Lets see, 1979 gas prices were about $1.69 for premium. That Jag has a 12 gallon gas tank... Would have cost $20.28, he ripped her off for $73.20. And they didn't pay for the gas in the BLues Mobile anyway... And were was the gas guy anyway, seemed like a pretty small gas station....

Jake

Hell, were they even that high? Couldn't have been much over a buck. I was living in Texas at the time though. maybe they were higher up north.

I don't think seven dollars would go very far today, however, back in '79 around the neighborhood I used to live in, gas was something like $1.15 to $1.20 for unleaded, maybe $1.50 for premium. (Hard for me to remember since my brain sometimes doesn't go back that far). Anyway, my guess is that Jake would have spent maybe half of that $7 on a pack of cigarettes and a book of matches, (since he so politely threw the cigarette lighter out the window with no remorse). Elwood would probably spend the rest of the money on a bottle of wine or rent a movie for him and the Chic Lady at the motel.

I'm glad he didn't get to go back...I would have been ticked off!

Just a hunch!

THAT'S what they did with the $7.

They put down a bet on the Cat Fight!

Should we charge admission to the fight? Bet we could make a mint.

(Hope you don't mind losing that bet.)

Who wants to referee?

And most importantly, are we going to get in trouble for taking this thread way off topic? :BB:

The Tangent Express runs through every thread in this forum, I guess...

TOOT TOOT!

As long as Jake and Elwood have the $7 in coins placed on that bet, I don't see it as off topic at all...

I'm sure that's exactly what they would have used the change for. Who doesn't love a cat fight?

Especially when I win.

I went to Catholic school for 9 years. I've dealt with nuns before. Let's go.

How's your Latin?

I bet Elwood used his money for a Latin dictionary.

My Latin is slightly better than my Swahili. That is to say, nonexistent.
