Y'know, I've never really taken a good look at the Picasso.

Ya know, I've seen a lot of Picasso's work as there are three rooms of them in the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

Although I am neither an artist nor art critic, when viewing Picasso's later work against his earlier stuff I have reached the conclusion that at some point he must have said to himself:

" Hey... I'm Picasso! I can put anything on a canvas or make the most bizarre sculpture and people will say it's great art... simply because I'm Picasso!!"

True: Picasso used to get a lot of stuff for free. Whenever Pablo Picasso would buy anything he would always write a check... which most people never cashed because they wanted his autograph!
No ma'am... We're musicians:BB:

Hahaa, that's great Mr-Man!:D There's a guy we saw play a few times in the 80's - Jonathan Richman. Talented and very funny. He has a song called, Pablo Picasso Was Never Called an A*****e. Sample lyric ...

Well some people try to pick up girls
And get called a******s
This never happened to Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare and
So Pablo Picasso was never called an a*****e

Here's a well edited vid with the tune played over some of Picasso's work.

I wouldn't swear to it but I believe I heard once that it was some stylized animal, a cow or some such....

I wonder if there is a plaque around there somewhere that explains what it's supposed to be?

Lo and behold, there's a wiki entry for the sculpture. Apparently Picasso never said what it was. There is a copper maquette (small model) that says "Tête de Baboon." Baboon Head. I think that's just someones personal take on it. I guess it truly is whatever you want it to be. I'll go with dixiesquare, it quite simply says, Chicago.

If anyone has the "Best of Jon Lovitz" SNL DVD, he does a fantastic sketch where he plays Picasso sitting at a restaurant. He doesn't have any money so he starts handing out terrible artwork to pay for his meal, all signed "Picasso".
And everyone thanks him for it.

That reminds me of a time I was working a convention and one of my friends had books he'd written for $30. A TV Actor named Richard (something, I have no clue who he is) came over, thumbed through the book, dropped down an autographed photo of himself, took the book (without asking if this was a fair trade) and left. The picture wasn't even in color! HA HA!

Boy, my buddy got gypped that day for sure.

So, you steal a couple of Picasso's worth $4.5 million, then what? What the heck are ya gonna do with them? I kinda doubt we'll see them on eBay.:o

LOL! No, Steam. I doubt it. Now, if anyone were to steal that Picasso in the plaza and have the ability to transport it without anyone seeing, well, I'd be impressed. Furious, but impressed.

I have to say stolen art and artifacts show up on ebay ALL THE TIME. Makes me sick. Just cause it's only $10 doesn't mean it's still not a crime. For anyone interested in art crime, visit this site.

Also, remember, the guys who deal in million dollar paintings don't have to go through ebay. They operate on different levels that cross international boundaries. They are above the law, often quite literally, and have dealers out there working for them.

Sorry to ride the tanget express. Toot toot! Very touchy subject for me. PM me if you want to ride the tangent any more....
