I kinda doubt it. The rumours are out there ...
http://ottsun.canoe.ca/Sports/Baseball/2007/11/30/4696689-sun.html

We (Ottawa) had our AAA franchise bought by Allentown, Pennsylvania. Now it seems we've been granted access to the Can-Am league. Beauty!

We just need owners, players ... etc.:BB:

The team to beat will be last years champions, the Nashua Pride. I didn't know there were lions in New Hampshire? There are lynx in Ontario ...

I'm not even sure if we'll still be called the "Lynx."

Will Dan buy in ... that is the question. Tune in next time as the answer is revealed ... until then ...

I agree. Not to mention the 11 to 13 million bucks he's already put into the winery. Putting money into a ball team doesn't make sense, here's why ... it's Ottawa. We just lost our AAA team due to fan apathy. The article says they need 2,000 to 3,000 fans a game to make it viable ... I can't see it happening.

We've been to about 8 games a year for the last 5 years, and they couldn't get 2,000 fans a game for AAA, they won't get that for the Can-Am league. Sad but true. It's a hockey town, eh!

I find it crazy to read that Lorne Michaels, let alone Dan Aykroyd, would even be rumoured to be investing in an Ottawa baseball team. Funny stuff.

But hey, ya read it here first ...;)

Can't speak to the Lynx but "Buster" & I used to go to Nashua Pride games fairly often when we lived in New Hampster... very nice little ballpark there, though I haven't been back in about three years. Nowadays we tend to go to the Brockton Rox most of the time, saw the Pride play there last summer. Time for a Blues/baseball rivalry, Steam? ;-)

I think so!http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif I remember seeing a pic of you and Buster at a ball game. For some reason I thought it was AAA ball. So that was a Brockton Rox game, eh!! Excellent.

I guess I was being a bit hard speculating on what attendance might be for Lynx games. The City of Ottawa really screwed the Lynx when, in the late '90's, attendance started to drop. They (the city) sold over half the parking lot at Lynx stadium to build a hotel. The stadium holds 10,000 and used to sell out in the early years ('93-'97) but now there's only parking for about 3,000 tops. Total people not total cars. People who had to park on the street got tickets!!

In the last 3 years my boy and I have seen attendance drop to under 1,000 a game. There was a few hundred of us for one game ...LOL. Crazy stuff. That's why I don't see a smart man like Dan Aykroyd investing in this team. Who knows? There's just enough parking left to make a Can-Am team profitable I think. But phew ... risky venture, fickle town.

It's pretty bizarre that we've wound up in the same league with ...

Bismo - Brockton Rox
Stien529 - Nashua Pride
Steam - Ottawa Lynx (if we keep that name)

So clearly there must be wagers!!:P Does the post office have beer coupons? Can you mail a steak? LOL!

That is a shame, it can definitely be hard to support the independent league teams. We've even got a third in our area (on top of Brockton and Nashua), the Worcester Tornadoes... actually the closest to where I live but we don't go there that often since they still play on a college field. Stein has an advantage, as the Pride has El Guapo... former Red Sox reliever Rich Garces! (Imagine David Wells, but if he had a little extra eight on him!)

Yeah, I have some pictures up from a Rox game we attended on Father's Day (against the Pride, in fact, and Guapo got as warm a welcome as the home team did!), though I do get to one or two Pawtucket Red Sox games (AAA) every year. Ironically I don't go to as many PawSox games because they're SO popular, considering the prices at Fenway, that they can be a little too crowded and busy!

Okay, so it's Stein's Nutfield brews (the Nutfield Brewery in Derry, NH), I'll haev to go with Wachusett down near me (though I'm primarily a Sam guy)... Hmmm, you can go with a bottle of wine from Danny's vineyard maybe? ;-)

PS... No worries, not suggesting any serious exchange of goods or services here, just a fun line of thought!

Absolutely!

Wachusett makes "Blueberry" beer? Wow. I'd ask you how that tastes but I have a feeling it probably tastes like ... blueberry!!:P I could wager a bottle of Dan's wine, when the time comes, or a local pilsner I tried this summer.

Love the bottle on the Steam Whistle! I haven't tried Wachusett's Blueberry (not being a big fan of blueberries!), though there Winter is pretty good this year. I did have blueberry ale a few times at a brewpub near Fenway, Boston Beerworks... I couldn't resist because they put a handful of baby blueberries (mini bluesberries? Very small blueberries!) into the pint glass and they bob up and down on the bubbles... HAD to try that!

Hmmm, my spellchecker showed I inadvertently typed "bluesberries" instead of blueberries there... Freudian slip I guess that I can't possibly bring myself to correct!

Maybe this thread should be changed to "Lorne" to co-own baseball team.:D We're close to an agreement, Lorne Michaels is indeed part of the ownership team. Unreal. It encourages me to pursue my dream ... stay the course. You see, I intend to charge the field during a televised baseball game and assault an umpire whilst dressed as Matt Foley! LOL!! So it'll be local cable ... still make youtube!!:(

Serially though ...

And of course Bill Murray is a co-owner of the Brockton team... too funny, a real SNL league!

That's wild! I read that two days ago looking at Bill Murray's entry at wiki. I was going to ask you, Bismo, if it's true.

Sounds like Bill co-owns a few teams.:-D

I've no idea where it might be (but now I'll have to look), but somewhere I had a Bill Murray Rox baseball card that was included in the team pack given out on one of the opening days!

Did you ever find that card, Bismo? I found a couple of pics of Bill hamming it up, Brockton style!

Well, we have a name now. The Ottawa Rapids. On the Quebec side we'll be known as the Rapides. All part of the official bilingualism crap we have to put up with on a daily basis.

I believe the Rox fans are very familiar with our new field manager ... Singing Ed Nottle! I hear he has his own CD. LOL! He did well for you guys in 2003, hopefully he still has some magic up his sleeves. Here's the 2008 schedule ...

*Note to Moderators* - Dan has nothing to do with this team, just a crazy rumour. So we be in the wrong forum. I don't think Bill and Lorne being co-owners of the Rox and Rapids respectively is enough to warrant a spot in the SNL forum either. So ... if one of you could slide this thread over to General Chat, I think it would be more at home there. If possible, could the thread be renamed to - Can-Am Baseball - Thanks.

No, but thanks for the reminder! It'd be somewhere in my son's room, I'll at least make an effort this weekend and scan it if I find it, but no promises I'll find it!

Looks like Ottawa's in Brockton on weeknights only this season, so I probably won't catch them there (I work evenings), though they'll also be playing in Worcester on a few weekends so that has some good possibilities, the Tornadoes are actually close to us anyway. (Brockton's just a more fun stadium.)

Ah yes, finally closing in on spring, when our thoughts can turn back to baseball....
