Howdy people.
I'd like to ask something about the moniker of the band members. That is, who named 'em, where they come from. It's been kind of a mystery...
By the way. John Tropea band had a gig in January here in Japan. Lou Marini was oh so cool *sigh*

They each have their own reasons.
Go here for Steve Cropper: http://www.playitsteve.com/colonel.ram
(I think he explains how he became 'The Colonel'
Birch Johnson became 'Crimson Slide' thanks to Alan Rubin (as explained on his website)
Donald Dunn has been known as 'Duck' since he was with the MG's, as far as I know.
As for the others, most seem pretty obvious, but I haven't put much time into researching it.

Thanks for the info
Yeah, some are just obvious but the others are... Oh well. I'd like them no matter what name they had.

I'm sure that Tom Malone was 'Bones' because he's skinny, lol
Some are a play on words, like 'Blue Lou' or 'G-Force' I think...

Blue Lou Marini - Because of the way he plays sax
Tom Bones Malone - Because he plays trombone
Donald Duck Dunn - Obviously a Disney reference
Steve The Colonel Cropper - Because he was known as a leader in the band. One time they even got him a Colonel's jacket as a joke!
Murphy Murph Dunne - If you can't figure that one out, there's something wrong!
Tom Triple Scale Scott - Most likely a reference to his high saxophone range. Also known as 'Jazzman', because of a famous single he recorded in 1974 with Carole King.
Birch Crimson Slide Johnson - Alan Rubin gave him this name when he found out he went to Alabama University, home of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Crimson Slide is a reference to that, and his trombone playing.
If you know any others, post them here!
I will try to find more.

I've never seen any confirmation of this theory, but when I first saw Steve Jordan's nickname "Getdwa" I thought it was a takeoff on the old negro spiritual/gospel tune "Get Away Jordan."
