bluesmobile pulls up out front of the orphanage .....
jake asks , why are we here ?
elwood replies , because you promised the penguin you would see her when you got out ...
ok fine , jake says his no f'ing way line , and looks set as stone not to be moved from the car ,
next sceen ..
you see elwood and jake going up the stairs with jakes head down and his hand on his shoulder ....
what could have elwood said to him to get him inside ?
why is jake's head bowed like a little kids after being scolded by an adult ?
and why do you see elwood with his hand on his shoulder ?
you dont see that any where else in the film where they are together walking ?
is he afraid , that if he removes it jake will bolt ?
is this another cut sceen that could explain this ?
just some thing thats been on me mind for a while now .
what's your thoughts ?

What Incident ? Did I miss something ? Can you develop ?
That's a very good question indeed, I was puzzled too. I think Elwood can be real persuasive sometimes but his arguments are not a physical nature. Though that hand of his on Jake's shoulder says it all...
True, Jake's stubborn but check the way Elwood looks at his brother just before climbing out the Bluesmobile. He looks determined, a man with a mission. Has he pulled Jake forcefully out of the car ?
Or Elwood used some kind of blackmail on his brother - his arguments may not be that much physical but he would rather use some psychological pressure on his brother.
Could be a good subject for a one-shot fanfic. Will think of that.

Maybe Elwood reminded Jake of this, like something from growing up. "She knows your here man, you know that bird"

LOL, no, I'm just making stuff up off the top of my head. Some little in-joke/secret between them, never to be mentioned again except by names like "The Incident", or "That Time", or "The Eraser Affair" or other cryptic names.

Yes, scenes 33 thru 39 were omitted.

It has to be! The Brothers feared the Penguin. Case in point - scene 44
INT. ORPHANAGE STAIRWAY - DAY
It is pitch black except for full doorway's light at the top, (vaguely reminiscent of Psycho). Suddenly, a full, husky silhouette fills the light. Jake and Elwood freeze.
Hahaa, Jake and Elwood freeze? I didn't add that Psycho bit, that's from the script. Fear. After 3 years in the joint, Jake forgot about the Penguin's powers. Scenes 33 thru 39 must have been Elwood explaining, or reacquainting Jake with the Penguin's powers.
The hand on the shoulder ... Welcome back to the side of Good, my Brother!

What were the 7 scenes? I guess none of them were put back in the 25 anniversary edition were they?

Oh I see, well, could be a good start for a fanfic. Possibilities are endless. Will keep that in mind if I work out a story based on that "missing" scene.

Yeah, Guitarman's right. Where are these scenes ? Is there a way to know the content thereof ? Any hints ?

"What a shame, huh?" Jake said.
"Yeah," Elwood said, nodding. "It used to be such a palace."
"Somebody ought to give it a new coat of graffiti," Jake said.
They entered the building and moved through dark corridors with peeling paint until both, as if on cue, stopped at the doorway to a long chamber housing rows of small iron-frame cots...
That's from the novel. That quote constitutes a small enough percentage that it's not illegal for me to post it.
As to how it would be divided, your guess is as good as mine. The first two or three would have been shots of the exterior with graffiti; maybe a shot of Jake's facial reaction. The dialogue would have been one scene. One scene of them entering, and one interior scene of them walking from the front door to the dorm room.

Those scenes were written, but never filmed. We need a draft of the script that pre-dates the June 6, 1979 version that floats around. Dan wrote an enourmous epic. If it had of been filmed it would be 5 hours at least.
The information contained in those scenes is out there somewhere. Most certainly it's in the mind of one Dan Aykroyd.

More fodder for the boys being scared ... it may have been the ruler!
*Excerpt from Scene 47*
SISTER MARY
She slams the ruler on the desk causing Jake and Elwood to jump.
47 CONTINUED - 2
ELWOOD
Oww, ya fat penguin!
This incenses Sister Mary Stigmata. She beats them both. A crack to the back of Jake's head and a backhand slash to Elwood with the ruler. She has the precision and concentration of a martial artist. She wields the ruler two-handed like a Kendo sword. She lands a series of blows on Elwood.
LOL! The ruler ... the omitted scenes may have to do with the ruler! Just a thought.

Scenes 81 thru 86 take place during the evening chase, before entering the mall. After making the U-turn and driving up the other side of the divided road, Elwood turns down a side street. The rest consists of dialogue between Jake and Elwood.
Scenes 132 thru 136 take place between the factory and Mrs. Tarantino's house scenes. They consist of Elwood driving down Maxwell Street through the parting hordes of flea market customers while Jake reads the addresses written on the cigarette package. The last one is Mrs. Tarantino's house, which Jake suggests they visit first in an attempt to get two at once.
Scenes 192 thru 207 take place between "Curl Up and Dye" and Ray's Music Exchange. The novel goes straight from Soul Food Cafe to Ray's Music Exchange without the Curl Up and Dye part, with only some very brief dialogue before they arrive.
Quote
Then Jake sees some of the prices in Ray's window and complains about how prices have gone up.
Scene 230 is right after Bob gives Bones Malone the set list. It consists of patrons arriving.
Scene 239 is during Rawhide. I think it was intended to be a scene with Bob and Claire, with Bob relaxing against the bar and smiling at her, but it seems to me that was filmed, so it maybe have been put back in?
Scenes 241 thru 246-A take place during Stand By Your Man.
Quote
The fight ends before Jake and Elwood have finished singing the extended version of Stand By Your Man.
Scene 258 is not in the novel, but is probably a short Maxwell Street exterior scene showing flea market patrons and the exterior of the Soul Food Cafe.
The other omitted scenes are part of events not described in the novel due to the drastically different storyline, or are part of events described in less detail in the novel.

Where could get the whole 'phonebook' of the scenario ?
I agree about Sister Mary and her ruler - she's devilishly skillfull with it. And think that after breaking the wooden ruler on Elwood's head (and from the sound of it, it must have hurt, blessed the fedora), she pulled out a sword on them.
In BB2K, when old Sister Mary pulls out the sword, Elwood moves back, as if traumatized though he's well in his forties !!! I realized then that he must have been afraid of her !!!
"Christ, Jake, take it easy, man..." Elwood got a taste of the ruler, which will not prevent him from saying later on that Curtis and the Penguin were the only family they got.
Love that orphanage scene.
