Here's a few key ideas... I just want people to tell me if they're good or not. These are events, in no particular order, and I want to see what you guys think. http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif I won't be writing this any time soon since I'm 10 pages into a Ghostbusters fanfic at the moment.

First off: All of these examples except the last take place before the movie, before Jake gets in jail. It may contradict what happened in Blues Brothers: Private because I haven't had the pleasure of reading it yet. I'm broke, so I can't buy it right now. It'll be a while. So I may have to revise the fiction later on.

Oh, and NO slash in this, guys. I'd want it to be canon. Authentic.

So okay, These are just some ideas I've come up with. Not in order.

- Jake is locked up in jail-- overnight. For some sort of small offense. Elwood sneaks over by the window (you know, those small, really high ones that are barred up) and gives Jake some toast. Jake says, "Just what am I going to do with this?" Elwood shrugs and says, "I thought you'd be hungry."

- Car chase scene: Elwood hijacks a bus (too out there?).

- I need an excuse to give Jake a machine gun. Any excuse. Any reason. I want him to laugh like a maniac and let that thing loose.

- Jake signs the band up for a show at a disco. Elwood starts beaming while the band members argue over the idea.

- Car chase scene: Elwood floors the Bluesmobile through a golf course.

- Considering the time period, there are short romances between Jake and Camille. But her temper still shows through. Even if they're happy, engaged, and planning their lives, Jake's still running wild with Elwood at his side... Camille finds something to always complain about.

- Camille gets dragged along on one of their adventures. Elwood drives like a maniac and she bounces around in the back seat.

- Curtis sits Elwood down after a mad car chase and tries to teach him some life lessons.

- After a wild car chase, the Bluesmobile pulls up slowly in front of St. Helen's Orphanage. It sputters to a stop. Jake and Elwood are dirty, sweaty, tired, and panting. They step out of the car and shut the doors in unison. Jake falls on his back and Elwood kneels next to the car. They sigh. Then The Penguin steps out, slowly. They both look at her blankly. She swings at Elwood with her yard stick and the boys jump back into the car and speed off. :o

- Jake and Elwood jump on a train to get away from their enemies.

- Car chase scene: (depending on what year this takes place), Jake and Elwood speed by the launch of one of the rockets/probes/ships... you know, like Apollo or something. Colombia. I donno. Just an idea. :o

- Post BB2000: Elwood is kidnapped by one of his many enemies, and dropped out in the middle of the dessert with a shovel, a pistol, and a tape recorder. The tape recorder contains a song (I was thinking 'The Girl from Ipanema' would be appropriate). He's stranded out there for quite a while. He ends up entertaining himself for several days. He has no sense of direction or geography, but he still tries to find a road. He finally does and hitchhikes with a trucker. Meanwhile, the guys who kidnapped him have Buster in their possession. Buster happened to be the heir to a very wealthy family. Buster is up for ransom from his alleged blood parents. :o Elwood is on a mad run to find his kid. http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif (I actually really like this idea, I could do a lot with this one.)

That's it for now. Like, pick out your favorites or something. :BB: It would help me draw out an outline.

This one might make a neat little oneshot, taking artistic license with the structure/location of the jailhouse. I could see this particular setup being played out in a small town pokey.

Hahah.

I particularly like to exaggerate some parts of the characters. I make Jake louder (more like his character from Animal House, lol), and Elwood more dopey (more like his character from Ghostbusters). So Jake is more assertive and bossy and Elwood is more oblivious and easy-going. I try not to do this too much, though, because I want it to have the genuine Blues Brothers feel. http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum2/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_cool.gif

FE,
If you can get yourself a copy of the book based upon the movie, it may help you. Elwood had a Caddy prior to the '74 Dodge Monaco we all know and love. I don't think Elwood would hijack a bus, but you might be able to interplay a Caddy chase mixed in with a bunch of buses taking kids to school. Maybe you can reference Elwood's interest in "mentoring" young ones (except the wiseasses, of course).

In the book, Jake is thrown in Jail holding up a gas station with a change shooting device (something used to pay tolls) that looks enough like a gun to fool the clerk. The cops laugh at him when they catch him. And the reason Jake didn't make his wedding was because he was in jail...which brings us to the start of the first film. I think Jake wouldn't use guns even if he had access to them...his music is his weapon of choice.

Another area you might want to explore is Jake and Elwood at Buster's age...or as rebellious teens. Just my two cents' worth.

Regards,
SB

I know it is NOT canon for him to hijack a bus-- COMPLETELY out of character. But it would be funny, IMO. :o

Hahah. Interest? He was disgusted with the idea at first, wasn't he? Then he realized he was getting old, and how cute Buster was. Then again, I haven't "analyzed" this as much as you guys have.

Yes, they explain this in the movie all in one line. Except for the little details.

I don't know about that last sentence. Sounds more like speculation. I've found that Jake uses his charm and manipulation as a weapon.

The rebellious teen is a good time period of hijacking vehicles.

Why would Jake use a gun? As a con, he knows he'll get more time for committing a crime with a deadly weapon than without one. I admit his charm and guile get him places, but that charm almost got him and Elwood killed by Camille a few times.

The same reason Elwood would hijack a bus.

NONE.

It was more of an artistic idea. It wasn't intended to be legit or realistic. Just entertaining.

I think it's his charm that kept them alive.

I like the idea of the bus Elwood would hijack. Not so much out of character after all - I guess if Elwood needed a getaway vehicle, he would just borrow any kind of vehicle. But I'd like to see the thing described like in the movie SPEED - of course the Elwood way !

I agree with Tak about the little drabble on Elwood giving Jake some toasted bread. Considering that in the extended version, Elwood suggests his brother to have some and how Jake is disgusted... that could be real funny !

The Bluesmobile defacing a golf course - that's most appealing to me ! I hate golf courses ! They are a real environmental nonsense to me so... And what about chasing a bunch of Nazis playing golf ???

The disco gig could be funny too, as a oneshot story. After all, the brothers and their band managed to survive in a honky tonk like Bob's Country Bunker... I'd be curious to see how they can make it in a disco. They're a dance band !

Go ahead with other ideas and submit your stuff - I'd like to read it, seriously, man.

Where does that Elwood quote come from ? I missed something... I like it though !

Thinking of it, but a bus would be practical to stuff all the equipment + transport all the Blues Brothers Band and a few other guests if any. And some chorists too - I want to be a chorist for them brothers and their band !!!

I agree, Elwood would say something like that - he can be so nice and helpful sometimes.
