Thanks for posting this Scott, and just to add:
If you want Dan to sign something for you, make it as easy as possible for him. Include a stamped and self-addressed envelope, something to sign (in the past he's done photos, album covers, DVD covers, etc), and even a pen if you want to be extra polite
