Any Silent Hill fans on here? Which game is your favorite?
I liked SH2 for its gameplay, but SH3 has the best story and the coolest monsters. SH1 and SH4 lost me, though (no 2D controls in the original and the limited inventory in 4.)

I have never played Silent Hill....or seen the movie. Is the movie or any of the games worth the time? I don't know anyone who has seen the movie or played any games.

If you haven't played the games, my opinion would be to see the movie first, so you can judge it as a movie and not a spinoff. If you enjoy horror or puzzle games, then I'd recommend playing them (and you get to shoot and chop up icky monsters
SH2 is the easiest, SH3 is the most interesting. SH3's story ties in with the first one, but the first one is hard to come by these days. It took me a second play-through to fully get what was going on, story-wise.
SH4 is the most challenging because it strays from the traditional mechanics of the franchise. You have a limited inventory (10 items) and must keep the rest in a storage trunk back at the apartment (where the only save point is) or discard something if you need to pick up a more important item and are "full". You have a lot more side quests too. The story is really intriguing though, but it didn't have any real replay value for me.
I haven't played Origins yet because it's brand new and I don't have a PSP, but I've heard that it's really good.

Its got to be something like Resident Evil then right? I guess I could give the game a try. If the PSP one is good, that might be the one to try!

Silent Hill and Resident Evil have been compared as "cousin" games, along with the Fatal Frame series. If you liked RE, you'll probably like SH.

Those are some scary effing demons.
Konami just released news about Silent Hill 5 for PS3 and XBox360. The info is available in the October issue of EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly), on sale Sept. 4th. Here's a teaser trailer from GameVideos.com

Resident evil is probably my favorite series so I'm going to have to look into this a little more. Sound pretty cool though.

Updated the poll for recent releases. I didn't get through Homecoming on the 360 - it was difficult as f*ck. Couldn't get any bootleg PC ones to work yet.
One day I'll break down and actually pay for it.
Shattered Memories is interesting. It's basically a rehash/update of the first game's storyline from an alternate perspective. None of the traditional weapon combat - instead you're searching for puzzle stuff and doing your psych-eval storyline. Once per level you encounter enemies and have to evade them, the tweaked-out environments getting more and more difficult as you go.
ETA: Also, I mentioned Fatal Frame earlier in the thread as being similar. I finally got a copy of the first one (there are at least three), and so far I'm enjoying it...probably because I'm using the infinite film cheat like crazy.
