I thought Larry did a great job - what a voice!

What are some of your thoughts?

Sure he was a great singer, but I don´t think the same as a Blues Brothers frontman. I talked about it in another topic, they looked a "Serious" Revue with him. Also, the lack of the harmonica on the songs made me a little sad.

On the other hand, Tommy Mcdonnell danced and did Jake´s flips. He also played the harmonica. Rob Paparozzi dances like crazy (a cross between himself and Elwood) and plays a great harp. I think the dances and tone gives the Band that sensation of fun of the Revue.

Excellent points!

I'm still "finding" the newer stuff so I haven't heard or seen much with Tommy or Rob.

Well i liked the idea of Tommy and Rob doing the act together, like Tommy doing Jake parts, and Rob doing Elwoods parts. They were going to do a gig a few years ago with both of them, but unfortunatly it got cancelled.

On to Larry Thurston, i really liked him as a vocalist, and i really love the Red White and Blues album. It seemed just a band playing the Blues Brothers Music, with a front man in the suite give's it more the Blues Brothers feel. But it's never going to be the same without John and Dan though..

Eddie Floyd is more guilty of doing this, but Larry Thurston has done his fair share of it. Hearing "Everybody say yeah!" every ten seconds irritates me to no end.

I just listened to "Red White and Blues" again and it sounds very fresh.

Everybody say YEAH! (sorry, I had to)

Check out what he and Matt did with it on the "Blues for you" bootleg. over 10 minutes of pure magic.

And CropperClassic you right about "Red, white and Blues". I heard too after a long time personaly the band was never so fresh and funky. They were haeding for a new sound and the originals but sadly droped that when they reunited with Dan.

The originals are good, but never cought on the way that the cover hits did. They don't grab you the way the originals do either, such as "One Track Train", a song where the entire band is tight and rocks hard. I mean, Cropper, Murphy and Dunn are great on that one, and the horns are solid too, and Larry's vocals are great! But again......... just not as catchy as something like "Soul Man" or "Flip, Flop and Fly". Larry in my opinion is a kick ass vocalist. I mean, I have a DVD of the Lugano Blues Festival from the early '90's and it makes the other stuff they recorded with him look slow! I mean, the band is tight and the croud is going nuts, and he's really on it as a vocalist! But, more of a revue of the music, not soo much a Blues Brothers style revue. I mean, it lacks harmonica, flips, the shades, dancing, ect. All of the stuff that made it something different with Elwood and Jake.
