Okay, here's a question. Why are they called the blues brothers? Are they brothers or just good friends?
Are Jake and Elwood brothers or just good friends?

They also became "blood brothers" when Jake took a string from Elmore James' guitar and lightly slice both of their (Jake and Elwood) fingers.

And they changed their names. Jacob Papageoroge became Jake Elwood Blues, and Elwood Delaney became Elwood Jake Blues. So they're brothers in just about every possible way you can be without being born that way, if that makes sense.

The beautiful thing is that Jake and Elwood take the "blood-brotherhood" concept entirely literally. While whining about Elwood picking him up in a police car, Jake refers to him as "my own brother". In fact, The Blues Brothers never mentions that Jake and Elwood are not biological brothers because their relationship is such that this fact is irrelevant to the story. I find this reminiscent of the way A Man For All Seasons never mentions that Thomas More's wife is the stepmother of his daughters...

Well, they weren't technecally born as blood brothers. But, they became blood brothers after they inserted theiur own blood into each other as Belltrist said.
But, they also grew up as brothers and lived together all they're lives (except prison) as brothers so they are kinda sorta brothers.

Okay, I'm going to quote The Blues Brothers novel by Miami Mitch:
""All right, Mr. Papageorge," the sister said, somehow knowing he could understand her, "it looks as though you have a new friend." She placed Elwood in bed with Jake. "I'm sure you two will get along famously." Jake made room for the infant as if he'd slept there forever. As if they were brothers."
That part of the novel takes place just as Sister Mary Stigmata (The Penguin) takes the boys into the orphanage.
