I'm sure many of you are familiar with the IMDb (Internet Movie Database) and if you aren't you should be as it's a wonderful website. One of the many useful things it does is list all the connections a movie as to other movies. The problem is, it doesn't tell you what they are. I'm trying to find out in what way The Blues Brothers references and spoofs these movies, and what way do the other movies reference and spoof The Blues Brothers. Here's a copy of The Blues Brothers movie connections page:

Now, I know more about movies than most people, but I haven't seen all of these and I can't spot the references in/to some of them. I wondered if anyone had spotted any references in/to the movies mentioned, and could you post them here if they have. I can set the ball rolling:

Referenced in 'Dragnet':
A chase where all the vehicles are police cars.
Referenced in 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles':
They pass a sign saying 'Chicago 106 miles'
Referenced/Spoofed in 'Chicken Run':
The chickens dance to 'Flip, Flop & Fly' and the rats do a very Blues Brothers-esque dance wearing sunglasses.
Referenced in 'Shrek':
Donkey wears BB sunglasses in the finishing number.
Referenced in 'Farenheit 9/11':
Peter Gunn Theme and sunglasses

References 'Jailhouse Rock' "Peter Gunn" and "Rawhide":
Well, that's just obvious isn't it.
References "Sesame Street":
"Do you have a Miss Piggy?"

Spoofs 'Psycho':
The shot up the stairs in the orphanage is similar to Norman Bates's house. Plus the main character/s pulling away from the police.

And those are the only ones I can spot. Anyone noticed any others?

the problem is that a "reference" listed on imdb might be a ver vague one. for "blues brothers" for example a refernece might be, somebody putting on a ray ban wayfarer and make a straight face while he does.
i also checked those "referenced in..." page and at one movie title, listed there, i remembered a situation like that i mentioned. so although it`s listed on imdb i it doesn't necessarily mean that its a direct reference.

edit: if i might: "bb" refers to animal house:
in the scene with otis day and the knights, boon is wearing a wayfarer and miming singing while otis is singing a r 'n b tune ("shout")

reference to "bb":
in trading places, there is a scene that takes place in a sophisticated restaurant. during the entire scene theres the same music playing which is also playing in the "chez paul"

spoofed in sister act:
during the musical cimax while the nuns are singing for the pope you can see the bb s standing in front of the church doors.

referenced in a american tail: feivel goes west:
at some point during the movie there is "rawhide" (the bb soundtrack version) playing

reference to sesame street:
frenk oz (playing the prison guy ("one soiled")) is the voice of several sesame street characters.

referenced in wired:
well, kinda obvious, too since this movie is about john belushi. in one scene you can see a bluesmobile standing in location where landis is just shooting "blues brothers". he is looking for belushi. (all re-enacted with actor, of course.) the movie also has re-enacted bb-musical numbers all over it.

ps: i did not look these thjings up, all in my head *showoff* :-)

I can add the Ferris Bueller reference:

We see the Thinker statue(s) as Cameron's screaming upon realizing there's too many miles on the Ferrari's odometer, summing up the same, "Well it was good while it lasted" feelings when the Bluesmobile fell apart.

The Reference/Spoof from Jonah: A Veggietales Movie is glaring. (Isuggest everyone see that movie, by the way. Although a christian kids film, it's full of great humor, music, and good ideals.) In the scene after Jonah is swallowed by the whale, the inside of the whale is treated as the triple rock baptist church, and teh blue light through the blowhole is like the "light" jake sees. They then launch into a very high spirited gospel tune that is very reminiscent of the song "That Old Landmark), right down to teh dancers being thrown in the air by trampolines. Good scene, great music, two terrific movies.

I love that movie too but I couldn't think where it was either. There are a few 'I have seen the light' moments but I don't think they could be considered references.

Recently I was forced into seeing 'Charlies Angles: Full Throttle' There's a bit where the three of them are dressed as nuns and someone says 'come closer' and they scrape their chairs along the floor instead of picking them up. Nice reference. Rest of the movie is bloody awful.

Maybe overlooked, but here's one I picked up on...

Murph and the Magic Tones are found in a Holiday Inn.

Holiday Inn is the name of a 1942 musical by Irving Berlin and starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.

Oooh, ooh! Just seen Trading Places (great film, Danny is gorgeous) and there's two big fat references in there:
- Frank Oz has a cameo, playing EXACTLY the same character.
- When Danny's character is put in prison, his prison number is 7474505B...familiar?

I've watched 'Hey Arnold-the movie' before of out pure boredom, and I think the reference in that is-

The 2 main characters (Arnold and Jerald) get given black suits, dark sunglasses and black hats for their 'secret mission' type thing they go on. I think that's basically the reference to BB.

I hope we can get some more-this is so interesting!

So Blues Sister you think Danny is hot right? I agree with you! That man is awesome! I think he is especially good looking in Ghostbusters! To go along with movies that have bits of Blues Brothers in them. What about K9- PI with Jim Belushi he is playing a harmonica and has the Blues glasses on!

Yeah, Danny is one of the most gorgeous and talented guys alive, especially in all his 80's movies. That must have been a good decade for him - starting it by making the best movie ever filmed and ending it by getting an Oscar nomination. And, of course, making Ghostbusters.

Strange nobody mentioned Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd said Slimer was the ghost of John Belushi which is an obvious reference, but in the 2nd GB movie Ray(Aykroyd) got a book store called Ray's occult books which sounds very much like Ray's music exchange in BB.

I totally agree with you! But where did you here about Dan making a reference to Slimer being John's ghost? It just seems kind of ignorant seeing how Slimer is kind of like a disgusting creature. Not that Dan is being ignorant or anything it just seems odd.
