For those who don't know the show, Final 24 is a show on the Discovery channel which chronicle the last 24 hours of the lives of some of the greats from the past. They count down the hours and had an actor act out John Belushi's last day on Earth with interviews with Aykroyd, Judy, Bernstein and Smokey cut between them.

It was a very interesting but scary episode. You know the ending and it's pretty hard sometimes watching Dan and others talk about the last hours of Belushi's life.

I recommend a viewing, if only for the insight it gives you on how far John had gone at that part in his life sady.
Anyone else catch it?

It reruns Sunday, in Europe at least. I'll try to capture and youtube it.

It's interesting how Dan and Bernie Brillstein somehow still feel guilty about not flying to John the night before (Dan) and loaning him the $1800 (Bernie, John said it was for a guitar) which bought him the drugs.

Also, besides friends of John, a expert on Drug addiction also comments on the things that happened. His view on the situation was that John didn't die of an overdose but that his body just broke down from using drugs alle the time.

I think I´ve heard somewhere about that show... But I´ve been watching a lot of Discovery channel these last few days and didn´t catch any previews or anything... It sounded like good stuff, it´s a shame if they´ve lifted it.

The thing about John's death in comparison to other Hollywood drug problems/deaths is that nobody even TRIED to get him in to rehab. The only thing they tried that was consistent was shots of B-12. :P Even though rehab wasn't quite as widely-used back then as it is now (for Hollywood and normal folk), there were people there. Not that rehab always helps, of course (supermodel Gia is the first that comes to my mind).

Good point. They touched upon that too. Fist off all they said that coke was like coffee then. everybody used it back then so I guess it wasn't considered as dangerous as it is known now.

However, John did have a lot of problems with it and Dan said something in the vein of that there wasn't internvention in those days. Nowadays you get a group of people and talk with the addict and send him in rehab. It wasn't like that back then.

Well and we all shouldn't forget, that they all toke that sh...t.
It's hard to stand up and say don't take it if you take it yourself. But even if it was such a hard end he had it showed a lot of people that they should stop.

Okay since I don't get good TV stations I am forced to rely on your generosity. I found out that here in the states they will be showing John's last 24 I was all excited until I saw that it was on the Biography channel which I don't get so if anyone here is recording and could make a copy or something I would greatly appreciate. Just send me a message or something. Oh the program comes on Jan 4th 10pm eastern. Let me know and thanks in advance!!

Same here--I'm all vaklempt, seriously. All the actors that they got for the reinactments were awesome (except the actress for Cathy Smith was actually prettier than the real one). The first-person camera work (ie, while Dan was talking about how he ran all the way from his office to Judy's place, etc.) and the editing was brilliant. The Bio channel always does a good job (have been watching it nearly all weekend) - I think I'm going to stay away from any E! True Hollywood Story from now on, as they're tolilet paper compared to BIO's stuff.
