the church is real , they filmed out side of it and the interior was a set in holly wood , so well re-made that the pastor joked that they snuck into his church to film the "have you seen the light sceen " at night when every one was gone .

Great pics DS. I'm floored by how well they recreated the church for the film.

Definitely when I have a few spare bucks next month, will I dash off a check to help with their fire repair.

When I saw the title of this thread I almost couldn't believe it. Although it's a downright shame about the fire, would you have been able to get inside there otherwise? The Lord works in mysterious ways...

in a word .... NO .... i called there after i was there the first time and asked if i could shoot some pictures but was told no . they are trying to distance them selfs from the movie , after all this is a house of worship , not a tourist attraction . that is what i was told .

but like i said i paid a pretty good sized penny to get in there , after all this is chicago , where money talks , and i will leave it at that .

Ha! sorry had to do it! thats friggin cool man but what you paid is helping them get their house of worship back to order so well worth it im sure. nice job.

very cool, just happy to see they got alot left to work w/.
Hmm? happy in my way mostly cause of the movie, and happy for them to still have a building to work w/. They just want to pray though eh? the hell w/ the movie Im sure. cant blame' m

If I were in their position, I would rename the church to Triple Rock and use the movie to my advantage. Would also help distinguish from the other Pilgrim Baptist Church. I've been to a few church buildings that have become tourist attractions and it doesn't detract at all IMHO. There is a cathedral around here that is part of a monastery which allows tourists under very strict set of rules. Lots of cathedrals in Europe that function for both worship and tourism too. If it gets people in the door...

as the article stated it has a congrgation of about 250 and thats a good number for any type of church to have .

the people i talked to around the area , are just happy to have it as there church and house of worship and nothing more .

and besides while i was in there , looking around the place is pretty old , and probaly wouldnt hold up to all the foot traffic , what you see is what is there . one room , thats it , not much to look at realy, not even the stained glass was real , it was a film on the glass.

people want to help by donating to restore it , thats cool , but any thing else like notes and letters will go in the garbage, all they want to do is get there church back to where it was befor .

Well done with the photos! :D
I immediately started comparing them to the movie, I noticed that they copied the balcony almost perfectly in the studio!
Also, the real stage is much smaller than it was in the film, with less stained glass windows on it.

This has to be an internet exclusive :)
