... and LOVED IT!
I've always been a fan based on the movies... for a long time I truly thought that it was all I would see of my two favorite characters. Well with this site and some other help, I found the book.
Now I can honestly say the characters are so much better with this read. They have so much depth, and every little thought was put into this.
I love how Elwoods main crimes consist of ones using a car in some sort. Yet Jake has more aggresive crimes, like assualt and armed robbery.
I have a question though.
I saw the draft waivers... but what did the Blues Brothers do about these? Maybe I missed it, so I was hoping I could go back and find it.
Just read Blues Brother Private...

I took a quick look at the draft waivers and I have no idea. I could be missing something because I'm Canadian and wasn't born yet at that time.

I know of them... what they mean and all that. But it doesnt fully say what they did. I know they didnt go to war... but how did they skip out on them?
I'm going to take a look back at dates and see if it matches prison dates.

usually here in the states if you are a felon and have done some jail time you are exempt from military service.
except in some circumstances you agree to go into the service to avoid jail time .

In the the final years of the Veitnam war they were drafting convicts... that were still in prison. Of course not murders and the like. Still people like Jake and Elwood would be right up there Alley.

I gotta read this book, I'm so clueless it's not even funny.
When in doubt, just think- "What would the Blues Brothers do?"

I'm glad that Scott linked to this thread! I found this website that listed Vietnam-era US draft classifications.
Jake's selective service classification lists him as a 4-F:
This probably means that he failed the physical.
Of Elwood's three selective service classification cards, only the topmost one's classification field is visible and lists him as a 2-S:
On the adjoining page of Private, Elwood's diploma from Leo Solis Vocational and Technical High School is displayed, listing a completion date of June 1971.

Might be cheaper to order from Amazon USA? Not sure if there are more sellers there. And it's worth checking eBay regularly.
