It´s a song by Henry Mancini. And I think there is a series called Peter Gunn in the 40´s...

[edit: removed Peter Gunn facts, which were posted while I typed response]

That is the Blues Brothers Band performing it in the movie.

I once saw on the cable access channel in Joliet this woman who hosted a how-to-play-guitar program. On one show she had a guy who played the "Peter Gunn Theme" on an acoustic, otherwise unaccompanied. He was playing the bass line AND the melody at the same time. Really cool.

Don't think I ever heard Dick Dale's version. When did he record it?

Speaking of which...Dick Dale is one of my all-time favorite guitarists. I don't have his complete collection, but I love what I have. The PR firm I used to work for sent me to Vegas in 2001 for the CTIA convention. When I got there, there were these guys in Hawaiian shirts pimping their booth and saying they'd have Dick Dale performing later on near the food court. I was beyond thrilled. Sure enough, there he was. It was really cool being five feet away from him and his band. I snapped a few pictures of him performing. He was obviously kind of annoyed. For some reason he kept muting his chords, rolling his eyes, shaking his head. When he finished one tune, he apologized to the crowd for not rocking out like he likes to do. He said they asked him to keep the music quiet so they wouldn't disturb the other booths, even though where he was performing was nowhere near the exhibits and you couldn't even hear him at all outside the food court. "If you wanna hear me really rock, come to one of my shows next week at Harrah's..."

and what's worse is the signs posted nearby that billed him as "Rock guitar star from Pulp Fiction." Ughh...

He deserves better.

Within the past few months I've seen Peter Gunn episodes on one of the specialty stations up here.

I have it, but is mixed with the James Bond 007 theme. Let me search it and I´ll upload it for you. ;)

BTW, Dick Dale´s Misirlou is one of my fave guitar songs (Pulp Fiction rules!!)
